My gripe with toll roads is that the road surfaces are usually no better than the non-toll roads and sometimes downright disgraceful. (the last 30 or so miles of the Indiana Toll Road heading towards Ohio comes to mind). It's like yeah, where is all the millions of dollars in toll revenue going here? PA Turnpike is another bad one I just flat out refuse to go on because of how dangerously narrow some of those construction zones are that never seem to get finished. Again, where's the money going and why ain't they out there right now getting to work on it? Theft and graft most likely.
Pennsylvania is terrible. A couple years ago I was curious I wanted to invest in the orange cone business… roadwork everywhere… how do I get a stock in that? whoever is part of that orange cone business theres gotta be billions of dollars in there… there’s always roadwork everywhere for years, seems like they never actually finish any projects on purpose, DOT just milk in the tax dollars taking forever. I think in Kentucky they’ve been doing roadwork right there before Indiana/Louisville for like forever now… down in Texas they’ve been doing roadwork in one section for like 100 miles forever I think it’s San Antonio area but also I 10 coming from Louisiana going into Texas towards Dallas
oh yeah San Antonio is ridiculous especially 10 going east. Obviously bad/dangerous roadways are the bane of every truck drivers existence and this country is very lackadaisical about it. They have highways down in Mexico that look like a German Autobahn for crying out loud. It’s a big and very busy country with lots of freeze and thaw cycles…I get it, but there are way too many sections of mainline interstate routes that are unacceptably bad.
