This happened in the early 70s. I was pulling a 34FT. dump trailer delivering alloys and raw materials to foundrys all over the States. I had just delivered a load of ferro manganese to a small foundry in mid state Iowa. It was about 3:00AM., and after getting all my paperwork taken care of, I headed to Des Moines to pick up my next load. Traveling on a 2 lane state route, traffic was light at 3:00 in the morning. I hammered down! about the time it started getting dawn, I noticed all the traffic comming toward me everyone was waving at me, I waved back and thought-- very friendly folks out here in Iowa land! about this time I looked in my mirror and was shocked to see only trailer frame, no bed! a split second later I realized the trailer bed was up in the air!!! I stopped and lowered the bed and there was all kinds of wires hanging off the tarp basket on the front of the trailer. I figure I must have tore down every wire I went under for many miles! After I cleaned several hundred pounds of wires off the trailer I continued on my way. I later descovered a mal-functioning power take off control that caused the bed to raise. Lucky for me I had not come to a overpass or things could have been worse! I guess the power company and telephone company must have been busy for awhile! I may have been wrong but the only thing I could think of was get the hell out of Dodge before you end up in jail! I did and never looked back! What would You have done???
