Think all of us drivers at some point can relate to your circumstances a lot depends on how you've progress up the ladder, are you going straight from driving cars to CDL or have you had experience driving larger vehicles like straight trucks or other farm machinery? Personally over the years I worked my way up having operated farm haul out equipment when we were harvesting Sugar cane and other vehicles on the farm helped me, then I drove straight trucks for a while and was in my 30's before I actually started driving articulated vehicles by this time I was well aware of how to make wide turns and stay away from the curbs. If your turning right you simply need to stay to the left more in fact if I'm unfamiliar with a street I'll stay right over to the left half in the next lane if there are 2 lanes blocking off both lanes if I have to, naturally you have to look out for traffic before doing so, however after doing this same procedure for years it is relatively easy, however for a learner it would seem a rather hard task. In all cases though remember stop if you have to, you won't lose points for stopping, you will lose points for hitting the curb, a post, or another vehicle. All the best as they say "practice makes perfect"![]()
Failed 3 different rd tests hitting curb each time, should I quit

Not sure if this helps, but I had a rough time with behind the wheel training and testing. My employer sent me to school and they were very patient, but then I was employed there for 18 years in the warehouse.
I passed pre-trip the first time.
Took all three tries on skills. But I made it.
Passed the road on the second try.
I thought for sure I was gonna have to retake my permit!
Hang in there. -
Thanks for all the replies, I will consider how to address the mental (negative overthinking) aspect more before I decide to continue to follow through with training.
201 Thanks this. -
Im in my second week of cdl school 3rd time driving. And I'm having somewhat of the same issue. Every so often the instructor yells out about lane management, I'm trying and feel defeated. Its a 53 foot trailer. Any tips I'm not encroaching on people's lanes and definitely not close to hitting them.

Look further ahead.
Increase mirror checks. -
Is he talking about the truck or the trailer?
-
The trailer
-
I've been doing that, think i need to slow down until I get more comfortable handling the truck.

If you need another reference point as you're going down the road, your right foot should be in the middle of the lane. When you're in curves you drive towards the outside of it or else your trailer will track towards the other lane and may enter it.

Ok I will keep this in mind it's frustrating because in my daily car I dont have these problems.
