Wish I had protected my hearing when younger, I have 24/7 tinnitus now despite hearing not being "too bad". Some hearing loss though.
The constant tinnitus can become quite distressing actually. What a crazy problem to have with no solution at all. -
In the navy I worked around jet planes. I also attended a lot of rock concerts in the late 70s, yet I passed the one hearing test you want to fail. The v.a. one to get a benefitO.Henry and Diesel Dave Thank this.

I know that this thread is older, but I've gone through this before.
I haven't read through the whole thread so if I repeat what has been said excuse me.
The best thing to do if you have hearing issues is never ever let the medical examiner do the whisper test.
It's completely arbitrary and inconclusive and is only dependent on whatever that medical examiner feels is acceptable, which is wildly random.
The best thing to do is go right to your audiologist, have them give you a hearing test with your hearing aids, and you take that print out with you to the medical examiner and you give them the finger.
I say it that way because I had a CVS medical examiner that not only failed me for that stupid whisper test, but she informed me that when I come back there, even if I bring the test from the audiologist, she told me SHE would determine whether I ever drive or not.
I had it out with cvs, and they refunded my money because she was a nut.
She's not alone.
Save yourself all the headaches. If you have any hearing issue at all take your paperwork from the audiologist and you're finished.
LEGALLY, THEY MUST ACCEPT THAT.
