Lone Ranger do you actually believe in the easter bunny as well!!
If so then there is no enlighten' you to the real world.. as a medical person and when went thru nursing school, we were taught that our skin is like a spounge and with it being porous it is like a drain[as told by my RN Instructor] if you come in contact with contaminats you will more than likely be affected..in the medical field we call this "Air borne pathegen" like thru blood thats called "Blood Pathegen" by the way these are on all tests during finals in any medical schools that are graduating.

Obviously you speak from prejudice. Although you deserve to feel how the shoe fits here is a list of FALSE POSITIVES from
    askdocweb

    False Positives

What is a false positive? It is a test result that is returned when a substance tests positive for another compound. It is a case of mistaken identity. For example if you eat a couple poppy seed cakes before testing, you can get a positive result for opiates.

The chances of you getting a false positive depends on the quality of the laboratory that does the testing. There seems to be about 1,200 of these labs in the United States currently testing for drugs. Less than a 100 of these meet federal standards and most of the individual states do not regulate drug test labs. The number of false positives returned range from 4% to over 50%, depending on the lab.

A concern here is that, if your company tests for drug useage, they are probably not required to use a certified drug testing lab, which means you have a greater chance of getting a false positive.

Listed below are products reported to cause a false positive drug test result. With your help, this will grow into a comprehensive list.

    Last updated, December 6, 2008.

While both of the above statements are correct, let's stick to the one topic: THC detection in a drug sample. That ought to cut down on the cut-n-paste.

    :violent3:

The OP said he was busted by a drug test that detected THC.

The very few drugs that can indicate a false positive are not being used (apparently) by the driver. And if the account of events are complete (suspected) then the entire process was fouled up from the beginning.

All of this book knowledge is fun to look at, but in the real world you will pass the pee test if the THC is either not there, or at levels below the detectable threshold set by the DOT.

    Lesson learned from all this?

Pay attention to what is going on at the clinic, know what is the correct way it should be done, and protect your CDL!

(BTW: I followed several of those reference links, the occurrence of false positives for THC are very low)

5mouths2feed: You'd better look at the rules!. What you're saying is correct when a 10-panel test is used. I've said before on this forum that a 10-panel is very inaccurate. But the DOT rules do not allow for a 10-panel test.........only a 5-panel test that doesn't have all those false positives. Do you know the difference between the 2???? I do! And I also know how the preliminary & confirmatory tests are administered, and confirmed and/or denied. I can't perform these tests, because I'm not a qualified testing person and probably neither can you legally or you wouldn't be making statements as above, but I do know how they are performed as well as the federal requirement when performing those tests. But since you're a qualified medical review officer that knows & understands 49 CFR parts 40 & 382 as well as the NIDA testing requirements......not......under the federal rules in the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) we'll just take your statement with a grain of salt unless the test was not for DOT purposes & it was a 10-panel test in which case you may be corect.

And to whoever stated to get another test: the second/split test must be demanded by the driver withing 72-hours of a positive notification........darn, can't do it now! Also, the CFR also requires that a motor carrier may not refuse to allow a driver to demand and receive the split test (the second portion of the original urine specimen...remember when the collection facility split the specimen into 2 different bottles?). Said driver can legally demand it & under the rules the motor carrier must pay for it (49CFR part 40). But then the carrier can also legally bill the cost to the driver.

And Ladyredrose: you're full of what you're eating if you believe the seeds on a hamburger bun or bagel will test positive with a 5-panel NIDA test as required by the FMCSA. Better diet quickly B4 XMAS. You'd have to eat about 60# of those seeds & no positive because it takes a special kind of poppy to do it and it's not the seed that contains the drugs. The substances come only and specifically from the opium poppy only, or rather I should say the part of the flower on the opium poppy where the petals attach and before the seeds are allowed to grow/mature in that part of the flower. That part is cooked down for the drugs. The seeds have nothing to do with it. But I suppose you are a chemist that can prove your earlier statement..........no, don't do that because I don't wish to see a copy of a drug test result on this forum. Incidentally, there are about 40 different kinds of poppies. I grow some for the flowers in my flower garden and I've never been busted for growing/manufacturing drugs. My neighbor down our road is a retired deputy sheriff & he grows them too. The seeds are sold at Wal Mart, K-Mart, and just about every nursery in North America. By the way, I have been drug tested since about 1984 or so (not too long after you were a twinkle in your daddies eye) just like you drivers (but testing for drivers didn't begin until 1991) when I was a federal agent and I've never been positive. And I thoroughly enjoy eating Bagels & Big Macs too. There used to be a Mickey D's across the street from the federal building in Detroit, and another one across from the federal building in Bismarck, ND where we usually ate lunch. And do you want to know something else? They're not poppy seeds on bagels & hamburger buns. They are in fact sesame seeds. "2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions....", on a what?

From a retired federal DOT official whose Dad was an MD & who studied his books & who actually helped with emergency surgery when I was 15 years old because of our location (we were 62 miles from the nearest hospital).

So turn me in to the AMA. Do you really believe you'll get anywhere Re. something that happened 48 or so years ago? And you'd also need to get my Dad but he's been dead since 1966.

It's called the statute of limitations and under federal laws applicable to your accusation that's only 4-years. But I believe you can't even name all the bones in your hand anymore as you're too prepossessed with making rediculous statements about false positives scaring people with your supposed knowledge taken from who knows where.

By the way, How do you justify that statement when military medics perform surgery? Medics in the Nam did it all the time when there weren't enough MD's to go around but I don't suppose you'd know about that either.

So now you can rant & rave all you wish because I'm not posting anything else on a post from last May

Does anyone pay attention, hello? 1. The lab calls you when you test positive and gives you the opportunity to have the second sample tested. 2. You're screwed, you have to go through the sap program and it gets reported for 3 years...
