    Ok,

So I had my first go at the road test. The air brake test was a breeze for me. I did several of the manuevers including the backing. Then when it came to parallel park I somehow got out of position and lightly bumped the curb and then it was game over automatic fail.

One thing I was told was that I was jerking too much when reversing because I was riding the brake and clutch. Should I lay off the clutch next time and let the idle position do the reverse? Should I not apply any pressure on the service brake while backing? Any tips on how to use the service brakes and clutch while backing?

That automatic fail on the parallel park test is so bogus. Doesn't even come close to being a test of real life driving skills. I don't know how you back in a really tight situation without riding the clutch a bit at times. But you don't need to ride the clutch AND the brake at the same time.

Yeah, you don't need to ride both pedals. Don't use the brakes until you're ready to come to a complete stop. When in doubt: GOAL. Get Out And Look. Get that acronym drilled into your head.

The curb or cones represents a boundary. Encroach on that boundary and you run the risk of hitting something.

Really? I use the parallel park maneuver at least 3 times per week in the normal course of business.

Well that makes you the exception, not the rule. I can't think of one time I've had to parallel park a truck.

Never had to park against a curb, or back in next to a truck on your blind side with an empty dock on your sight side? That's the same maneuver.

I saw a truck in Orlando Florida parked in a dock. I saw this last week and the nose of the truck extended all the way to the busy road. It was a four lane highway and the nose took the slow lane and all cars had to used the fast lane. Even cops went through and dint say anything. I dint know this was legal but it doesent matter how many times you have to get out of the truck and look! trying 30 times is as good a hitting it the first try! GOAL!

I think your forgetting this is the test to get your cdl they don't care about goal in these tests. When I took my test you weren't allowed to get out of the truck
