You are at least equal to me as a driver of big trucks. It's a shame we cannot do a rodeo somewhere to see whose better on the stop watch. I would be the first to say you know how to write about many things it would take me too much to do. The knowledge that is.
I add one more.
The backing part. Once in a while when someone is too heavy on the clutch plate rather fast against the inertia with not enough power or not enough gear the entire tractor would do what I call a bounce house about a foot. It will sink on it's entire suspension and then begin to hop as a entire tractor trying to go back. If it's bad enough you can see the drives try to articulate against the limits of suspension while applying power.
I have started to see this problem in Automatics and don't understand the problem. When we had our Rockwell Meritor Auto in 2001, all we did was set R reverse on paddle with Brake on, release service brake (And clutch... ) she starts moving back at idle. Work the wheel to back it in one move none of that hopping.
FAILED MY CDL ROAD TEST :(

When I took the articulated license test in 84'(back then you could be grandfathered in if you had someone you worked for sign the waiver, my grandpa wouldn't cause I stopped working for him)the inspector turned out to be someone my uncle gave 500gals of fuel oil on credit to. He told me the only way I could fail is if I ran into a pole and even then he'd think about it, how's that for karma. After we were finished he told me I did well and would have passed anyway.

Don't worry about stalling a truck. If coupled to a trailer its better to start off in second. If they make you start off in 4th, lots of throttle is necessary. I stalled many times. Once I forgot that I was on the high side and another time I heard a guy talking about a Billy goat in his truck on the CB. I started laughing going up a hill in North Carolina and missed the gear downshifting. It happens to the best of us. It becomes easier repetition
