Actually it's funny you say that because I missed that opportunity when I worked the night shift at a Holiday Inn in downtown Port St. Lucie, FL. That log book was gold. Every week I thought I would never forget that week, until the next week came. But I really missed out on the audit shift where the words "naked, running and police" were in every week. That shift was platinum on the "I bet you didn't know..." genre. :)

Haha well yeah it's so hot and humid down there no wonder they're naked. There's only so much you can do to stay sane from that brutal heat. It turns regular people into lunatics. At least where it's cold you can put a jacket on !

I have no doubt that Knight could have increased the weight amounts used but the test you described was exactly like the one I did. I doubt it has anything to do with healthcare laws but its more of a CYA thing for worker's comp or disability claims. They took a before and after pulse rate measurement, a few of the guys failed because they couldn't lift the weights due to bad shoulders and or knees but most failed because their heart rate didn't return to whatever spec they used after the test. I agree that a company can use whatever test programs they desire but why not warn the potential newhires---what is the big secret? All of the guys in my orientation were surprised at the test that was given.

This is going to be an issue with any carrier who regularly hauls tires. A lot of places who receive tires offer NO unload help (paid or otherwise) and they have to be "tail-gated" by the driver (rolled off). SUV and light truck tires are HEAVY after about the 50th one when it's 110 degrees in the trailer. They are stacked to the ceiling and wedged in tight and not on pallets. Knight isn't a big tire hauler, but they do haul their share. And all it takes is one load to make or break a driver.

I've hauled several loads of tractor-trailer tires out of TN & only one place in AZ had me tailgate the load. The other places told me to go have a cup of coffee & they would come get me when the trailer was unloaded. They were sealed loads, so I didn't have to worry about the count. Guess I was lucky.

The big truck and other large tires tires are not a problem. They are forked off for the most part. I've maybe hauled 8 or so loads in years past that were mostly auto and light truck tires (stacked woven in and have to be unstacked by hand) and had to tailgate each one.

That sounds more like Knight is doing a "risk assessment " type of exam.

You can't lift the box or weight you could potentially be hurt and COST them money in their eyes.

Corporate Paranoia is the general name for this sort of behavior.

First, for you this is a bad test. Now the reason they do this is a good one. It will cut down on the fat-but lazy slobs that cry and whine about everything. The same ones that complain about driving a truck, one of the easiest thing there is to do. I had guys that would complain about driving some places because they would have to jokey the truck around, The solve for that was hand them a shovel, thats work. By the way that was the last time they #####ed.

    FLATBED Thanks this.
