Most important words right there.....
Perhaps you just need to slow down a little...
Start from the front and work your away around and name off every little part ext....
Just go slow and spend as much time as you need describing each part and what you should be looking for.....
Again if this guy wants to hear it all then tell him exactly what he wants to hear and that everything you should be looking for....
Sounds like he has already gave you a little information on what he wants...

So here's what you need to do.
Make your own check list say on 3"X5" cards. Start at the beginning just like you would do on the truck. After you make the list, go back to the books and make sure you have everything you are required and how to do it. Check and re-check it. Then use it on a truck. Don't just try to memorize it, put it to work. If I was at a truck stop and you came up to me with a check list for a pre-trip and the explanation why you're doing it I'd be more than happy to help if I had the time. You might be surprised how many drivers will help.
You keep using that check list every time you're around a truck and you'll ace that part of the test. It may seem like alot of work but it will pay off. And I guarantee you'll keep that list for many years. Just be sure to get all the right information. I know there was a thread here some time ago that was real good and had a good list but I can't find it right now. You'll have to do the searching. Good Luck. -
I cant go to slow in ohio we only get 30 min.another problem i had was when i released the tractor and trailer brakes so i could pull up to to see if the brakes pull to the side it would not move i tried about 6 or 7 times he told me to go on when i got done he got in the truck to see if he could move it . he moved over to the skills test . then i did not get credit for not checking the tractor and trailer brakes. also i checked ohios cdl book it does not say anything about saying that the lights are not broke. im calling the test site on mon. and tell them that i got the shaft

sequence is your new life system in trucking. "I see that my left exterior mirror is clean, mounted properly, adjusted to my liking and is not loose, cracked, or broken." this all helps if you are detail oriented. everything was in good working order with proper inflation of 105 psi max and was not loose, cracked or broken. brake linings are visibly ample in thickness as the vee in their centers indicate as well as the one quarter inch minimum rule dictates. there is no tell-tale rust emanating from the lug nuts indicating movement and I check by hand to see that they are not loose. inspect every wheel vacinity unless the inspector calls you off. he or she will on the right side if you talked them to death sufficiently. looking at the truck will que you to remember everything[although I forgot the driveshaft] still passed. practice and go get'em!

I think you've got too much on your mind and you're blowing it yourself. Just relax, it's not a drop dead test. You will pass it someday. So just take it easy and remember that you're not the first one to go through this so you'll do fine but just relax. -
you probably have the manual right? Read the pre-trip section. You should notice that it tells you what problems to look for, such as 'not cracked,' ( what you want to do is the opposite of what you did on your test. ) instead of saying the mirror is solid, you tell him it's not cracked. In other words, you want to tell him what type of problems you are looking for , not just that it's solid or ok. point out what problems you are looking for and say it out loud. if you're looking at a tire.... you would say something like... " no gouges, cuts, buldges, instead of saying that the tire looks ok. point out the negatives that you are looking for that might cause problems. But read your manual over and over a few times.

i failed the pre trip once, and some one told me , NAME EVERYTHING! everything you see tell the tester, no matter how dumb it seams, every tire/wheel brake/ brake chamber, slack adjusters, EVERYTHING ON EACH SIDE
just go out of your way, every little piece, if you do that, you will pass
im talking everything, mirror arms, door locks/latchs
theres no such thing as to much, in WV there are like 83pts you can be scored and you need like 70 i think
but JUST NAME IT ALL!!!! -
after talking to a guy who failed on his first try because he did not say a word did evey thing right just did not say a word. he did the pretrip the way you are expaining it and he passed with flying colors
