Failed Road Skills Test Today

    This is what i think is probably going on im pressing the brakes all the way down and i dont want to release them early because if you roll back on the test its an auto matic disqualification

    I'm gonna take a wild guess an say that your brakes aren't released when your taking off. I'm not saying that your not releasing them but maybe they're not releasing all the way or something.

    Yeah this is what im doing wrong now that i think of it none of instructors ever told me that you could stall if your brakes are still engaged they said i was just letting of the clutch to fast

    Any tips stuff i should be thinking about to avoid doing this??

    I was told to load the clutch up. By that I mean you let the clutch come up to where you just start to feel it engaging and then start to lift of the brakes and releasing the clutch and that should keep you from rolling back wards. Hope that makes sense?

    Ok with that I'm 99% sure you're going before your brakes release completely and with that it doesn't matter what gear you're in, you're going to stall. Practice with the clutch, let it out to the point you feel it start to catch, the truck will shake a bit and the sound of the motor will change. When you're at a stoplight and see the light from the other direction change to yellow let the clutch off to that point. You can use that to hold the truck and keep from rolling back, when your light turns green make a conscious effort to take your foot off the brakes completely and put it on the floor before releasing the clutch the rest of the way. You won't roll back because you're holding it with the clutch and the brakes will have time to fully release before you come off the clutch.

    Long term it's tough on a clutch if you use it to hold the truck all the time but on the schools equipment for the purpose of passing your test it will be fine.

    Ps you should go back to school and smack the hell out of your instructor. He had 4 weeks and his sole job is teaching how to do it, this forum got your problem straightened out in half an hour without ever getting in the truck with you.

    The school I went to in the early nineties loaded about 25000 lbs of Sandbags in trailer and fixed the axles at the 41 foot mark .. It gave you a more true feel of driving a class 8 .. A empty trailer can actually be harder to shift with at first
