I do all the time. Clutch will last longer. I am 50k to 68k empty tho depending which trl I pull.

OP, I also think you should have had no problem with the 18....i trained 3 days at school on a 10...then my first job road test it was an 18 n I had no issues

Let me ask this question regarding 18's if I may.

Is it the idea of 18 gears that seemingly tends to overwhelm newer drivers? Or is it a case of knowing where the splitter switch is supposed to be during normal driving?

Doesn't matter where the splitter is, with an 18 it's all "normal" driving. I've been following the thread and it's already been said but the fact that this was an 18 is irrelevant to the reason he failed, he could have done the same thing with a 7 speed.

Newbies need instruction on the joys of 18 speeds. Most of them don't want to deal with it.

What's been getting to me lately is I recall certain trucks in the past that shifted the rear axle in addition to splitting and range. How is that for insanity.

I don't and I've put over 1/2 a million miles a piece on two different heavy haul trucks with lots of stopping and starting both with original clutches. Empty I start out in a higher gear.

There's two extra buttons on an 18? I'll have to check mine.

Super 10 is super easy. Was thrown into one that did not have the shift pattern on the knob or dash. I was still fairly new. Had it figured out by the third shift.

I guess I was insane driving the trucks that had 2 speed rears. Including the last company that had 2 speed rears and an 18 speed.
