I was at knight Transportation Cdl school in Phoenix. I'm confident and strong on the driving I'm strong in everything except parallel parking. I failed twice on my road test on parallel. Knight wanted me to retest but I hate to use my third chance on that mistake. I'm from Tennessee I really couldn't find most places to rent a truck and test here.

I was 45 and terrible at parallel parking. I set up cones and wood 4x4s and practiced it for like 8 hours total in a few days. That helped and I passed the first try.

Parallel parking is a trick. Gotta have a system for setup and wheel turns. Last time I took drive test I drew the short straw and had to blind side parallel park. I just took a deep breath and trusted the system I had practiced.

No actual cones were harmed in the process.

I practiced alley docking daily, did it beautifully every time on practice runs. Parallel is what really had me nervous, tended to be a hit or miss for me practicing. Go to take my test, absolutely butchered the alley dock when it actually counted. Went back a week later and they switched it up, had me do parallel instead of alley dock, I truly couldn't have knocked it out more perfectly. God bless my trainer

You only have one more shot, it doesn't matter if you take it at Knight or in Tennessee. Actually, you may have a better chance of passing if you try again in the same truck you have been practicing in. Going to a rental place will give you a different truck that may handle and shift different, resulting in you failing a different part of the skills test.

Where ever you end up taking the test it is highly likely you will have to do at least one parallel park maneuver. Just practice and keep on going.

If it is any assurance, I only had to park in that style twice and a third time was on a bet versus 8 meters. It is not a common skill. Nor was it required in Maryland back in the 80's
