Hello everyone, have a few questions that' I'm hoping I can receive some answers on. I recently crossed the 2yr mark in trucking, but in that process I had my first screw up. I blew past a weigh station and received a citation. The officer pretty much did a level 3 inspection, and wrote the FAILED TO OBEY A TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE on the citation. I noticed its not on my MVR/CDL but on my psp. My question is, will this be seen to employers as a Moving violation or reckless/careless driving conviction. The job I'm looking to transfer local Requirements is : No more than 3 total moving violations in the last 3 years, with no more than 1 moving violation in the last 12-month period prior to hiring...... AND
- No reckless/careless driving convictions or pleas in the last 3 years.
Any help greatly appreciated

I believe that’s a non moving violation.

That is absolutely a moving violation. It's the same as running a red light or stop sign. Insurance companies treat this one worse than a speeding ticket. People speed absent mindedly, but "disregarded" or "failed to obey" is saying that a conscious choice was made.
Don't jump the weigh station. Park until it closes. Route around it. Don't jump it.Last edited: Nov 21, 2025 at 6:38 AM
runningman0661 Thanks this. -
They will see it as a moving violation. It's not a reckless driving violation. It' won't be on your MVR unless you got a ticket in addition to the inspection report.wis bang Thanks this.

With 2 years clean, it is not a deal breaker.
Most insurance carriers allow 1 or 2 'moving violations and one 'at-fault' accident.
Did you examine the roadside report you sent on to your company?
You mentioned 'citation' so I'm asking if that word appears in the report.
Some states ticket by mail so if the report says Citation No 25-00234; a ticket may be in the mail.
Anyway, I've never had someone with JUST this infraction denied by any of the insurance carriers I worked with. -
If it happened in a different state from your license it may take a few weeks or months from the final court date to make it on your mvr. Or it might never make your MVR, it's supposed to but some states don't talk so good, and some don't listen too good, and some don't do either.

The exact way its worded is " Driver/Vehichle Examination Report" ..Then at the bottom of the report, it has a section " Violations Attributable to the motor carrier". In this section they put "Failed to obey traffic Control Device etc... Driver failed to enter EB Weigh station"
Thank you all for the replies, I appreciate the information, and it help calm my nerves a little. The incident happened 1/2/25 in GA. I live in Florida.
