Group A, (Road Test) & Group B, (Drug Test) will be done in tandem, some new hires will be in group A others group B. The failure in the road test is not reported on a DAC. Further, that failure will not cause you to be terminated. The Carrier may still your skills are strong enuf to go out with a Trainer. After your time with the Trainer, student will be given a final road test.

Thanks, I feel a bit better. I'm confident in my abilities to learn and adjust, just lacking in experience. I'm sure most new drivers are nervous at first.

my first company road tested everyone day 1 before they did anything else.

Out of my class 2 of them had accidents on the road test. Quality 3 week CDL mill wonders. One slammed squarely into the front of the right side trailer during the backing portion and never made it off the yard.

The other tore the crossing arms off of a railroad crossing during a right turn. Not the small ones either the big 4 track crossing gates. Said he'd never pulled a 53 before all they trained him on were pups.

I don't believe they'll put anything like that on your DAC. If you fail a drug test however some carriers will put it on there in bold letters. A national database is going to be set up eventually if they haven't done it already, to list drivers that failed their test.

The road test is easy if you are coming out of a school. They just want to see if you can make left and right turns safely, not speeding, and observing proper following distance behind other vehicles. Be sure to check your mirrors every 6-8 seconds during the test.

You'll be shot and killed. Then decapitated and the safety manager will parade your now severed head around the building for all to see.

You'll be fine. Since you're new, they'll work with you. It's pretty hard to fail a road test. Anything they don't like they'll help you on

As someone who failed countless road tests and didn't get the job; the company flew me 2,000 miles across the country to road test only for me to blow thru a yellow light ; the worst they will do is say,
take a refresher course and come on back. They probably won't mind if you grind some gears. They are looking for serious safety violations. Did you kill anyone ? Major traffic violation? Did you start smoking your medicinal marijuana water bong while road testing ?? If none of those occurred, you should be given a 2nd chance.

By by the way if you lose a gear while shifting, and you are driving a 10 speed, quickly add up the mph numbers ; like if you lose the gear at 30 mph and slow down to 25 , add up 2 and 5 and shoot for 7th gear. Rev up the engine all the way to the governor and then "scratch" the gear you are shooting for. You will grind the gear for a second and then the rpm will match with road speed and you will pop right into the appropriate gear. This concept will save your skin as a new driver.

As a new driver the kids of death is gonna be when you lose a gear , or if you are slowing down to come to a yellow /red light and all the sudden it turns green. You will be so anxious that maybe you will be driving from 55 mph slowing down for that red light in 10th gear and by time you hit 30 mph you will try to accelerate back up while still in 10th gear. And then you will lug the engine or kill the truck. Remember that truck man, just add up the numbers you are closest to on the speedometer and that is the gear you would "down shift " into. So in the scenario I just gave, you would not continue accelerating from 30 mph in 10th gear. You would think about how you will need to accelerate past 35 mph ; then you would downshift into 8th gear, which is the appropriate gear at 30 mph when you are accelerating (3+5= 8th gear )

another tip is to swing as wide as you can. Take more room than you need.

I guess no one taught you how to down shift. It's the most important part in driving in control. In my opinion.
