One of my "absolute must have's" is Grunden rain gear. It is stupid expensive (like $80 for the good jacket), but it will last for a decade or more. It has the neoprene inside wrist cuffs, so when you lift your arms the cold water doesn't run into your armpit....!!!!!

A great rain suit (bibs and jacket) makes chaining up in the slush pretty tolerable.

nobody has mentioned a good vest for in between cold and real cold.
I swear by them as an important layer.
worked construction Rock Springs Wyo, back in the '70's ,vest and insulated coveralls when it's -40. worked good.
keep your core warm and short sleeves or just long sleeves, can be worn for better movement.

Tractor supply sells walls stuff and I will admit it takes longer to break in but for the money its a good bargain. Another secret/ trick an old Army guy taught me is wadding up newspaper and stick them in wet boots overnight. All dry and warm on wake up the next morning. Works like a charm.

Something else I have found works good is a rain count that doesnt breath well. It sounds wierd but for cold weather it traps body heat and works well. Not good for warm rainy days though.

I'll second this. Back in the early '70's I was doing a project for Mountain Bell in Steamboat Springs, CO. I've been quite comfortable with just a flannel shirt with vest over it, in 10 degree weather. Of course this was in the sun, and there was no wind, (unlike Rock Springs,) but still 10 degrees and comfortable.
OK, am I mistaken? I thought TSC handled Carhartt. I've got one about two miles from my house...

Closest Cabelas from here is 100 miles. Scheels has real good winter wear.

We'll be losing our Sears the end of this month. Not really any loss as far as I'm concerned.
