Ahh the olden days ....... Like the time in Iowa when I got stopped on the scales and the old boy walked out and asked to see my log book .
Him : hello driver can I see your log book?
Me: which one officer I have a whole stack of them !
Him : now that is funny driver do you have one that looks legal.
Me : no sir I don't have any that I have made any marks in at all .
Him well let me see one of them new ones then and you go ahead and pull around back .
Oh and bring in 38dollars and 20 cents with you !
I pulled around and parked and got the money out to pay the fine with and went inside .
Him: driver do mind telling me why you don't have a log book started for the month yet ? You do know it is the 18th of the month don't you ?
Me: Well I will tell you the truth sir I just leased onto this outfit on the 1st of the month and I have been so danged busy I have not had time to start one yet!
Him: (laughing at me) well I see you are going to the Sara Lee plant right up the road and I know you will have time to get it caught up before you get out of that slow place.
Me : well thanks for the warning about the slow docks and I will do my best to remember all of the stuff I have done so far this month .
Him : sign here and the that will be 38.20 and drive careful and try to get that book caught up have a good night.
Me : thank you sir and you have a nice night yourself And I hope you are wrong about them being slow .
Well he was not lying about how slow they were the unload and reload was long enough that I stopped and had coffee with him the next evening !!!
He didn't even ask to see my book ! But I had it ready just in case !!!
NOW THEM WAS THE GOOD OLD DAYS RIGHT THERE BOYS !!!!
Do that today and see how they would treat you !!
They make it sound like one of the 7 deadly sins to not have lines drawn in a book .
Now before all the rule book thumpers start telling me I am the reason we have the rules we have today.
I no longer let my book lapse like that and I don't run over hours because they act like they do .
But all the correct lines and all of the rule following in the world will not make you a safe drivers .
It will just make you a legal driver.
Unfortunately legal drivers are not always safe drivers.
And most safe drivers are not legal drivers . Another little secret catch 22 in trucking . -
Hi EZX, relax, that was 30 years ago. I would never do anything like that now. Like someone else said, with all the electronic gizmo's, like the blinking lights on the urinals, they probably know the last time you took a leak.
the point was you advocating banning paper logs for elogs
i didnt start driving truck to work in an office or a factory that i have to punch a clock and everything i do is monitored
one of the major reasons i started driving the truck was the freedom FROM all of that, to get a load, take it to where it needs to go, on time and drive, drive drive
not drive, sit for 10 hrs looking at the clock so the computer can tell me when i can drive, not so a computer can tell me that if i leave a truckstop at 5am, and sit a the receiver for five hours, i only have six hours of driving or else i am some kind of mass murderer outlaw
not to have a snowstorm coming in to town and i cant leave because my computer says i have to sit, and then when i wake up the next mornining, i am stuck in 6inches of snow
this desire to submit to a computer is killing the very spirit that many drivers had in becoming truck drivers (i know there are some docile sheeple who think elogs are the best thing)
as the driver above said, all legal drivers are not safe, and all safe drivers are not legal
the problem is that too many sheeple drivers were too timid to tell their dispatchers to go pound sand when they were too tired to drive, so now they have a computer to tell them what to do, but they are now too docile to accept personal responsibility to drive when they are rested and sleep when they are tired
so banning paper logs is not a good thing, it allows flexibility in a fluid industry, whereas elogs put concrete rules in a fluid industry, and this is why elogs will never work (notice how many industries want exemptions for each new rule) -

Yes, this is true. They tell you at orientation zero tolerance on logs. But what they really mean is zero tolerance on getting busted.
G.Anthony Thanks this. -
Guys ....
We've done alot of damage to ourselves in this industry in alot of ways ....first of all just turn on the CB while sitting in a truck stop and listen for a half hr to all the so called professional drivers , take a look at some of those so called self respecting characters ( don't get too close the smell will kill ya ) then drive down the road 10 miles to the accident
scene where they are covering up the face of that mans daughter & wife ,because mr. hot shot super trucker was too tired to think straight & i thought he had no problem making that window time or mr nervous nelly was trying to save his job because he was terrified of his dispatcher then drive back to the truck stop & ask a couple drivers what kind of $ they are making ( dereagulations ) then take a look
at the shady companies & brokers they work for , look at the showmen ship of their equipment (teeth on the grills ) then go inside and sit and listen to the "he man " conversations about broken marriages & lot lizard stories .........instead of standing by each other on important issues ( can't keep hogs out of the troft ) like sayin NO to deregulations , we were shooting buck shot at passing fellow truckers ( remember that ? ) instead of encouraging each other , we discourage the poor driver that got bent over & raped by his company ( yes we have whiners also ) and the list goes on you guys know exactly what im talking about .....so it's safe to say we have arrived at our destination ....nowadays we have uniformed terrified rookie drivers operating death machines for chump change scadulistic scams lease to own this shiney peterbuilt and now we have elogs which mean even less $ ....this is called " unattended consequences " and the public has to step in and help out , is it any wonder? don't get me wrong I've been there at 4:00am doin the wrong things &bragging about my cat , destroying my marriage , having my son sacrificing time with his father ,tempted by the hot blonde because my wife is 700miles away ( only $ 25 & a mild case of clap ) friends though i haven't seen so long they thought i was dead or didn't i cared about em anymore , yes i understand you guys very well what your talking about your on a mission to make a buck , but we have been foolish and the joke is rightfully on ourselves ....im still waiting for you guys to finish drinking your coffees & waking up ( i know you drove along way ) and by now your probly tired readind this rant ....but the only solution is to have frieght regulated once again , ill finish with this question " do you guys really miss the good ole days "? ......i say enough is enough REGULATED FRIEGHT back this industry out of this ditch and get this machine rolling again but this time with the same value we sacrifice for our families ,better paid drivers make safer highways ....btw im not impressed with outlaws neither .....no offense intended just had to get my foot up your butts
You deserved it & me tooLast edited: Jan 16, 2015
