We're in the process of clearing out my mom's house and moving my sister into her own place. Hiring movers is a MUCH better choice, if for no other reason than to avoid the fight on how to carry stuff down the stairs or load the truck. The movers could be 10x as expensive and it would still be worth it.

Then add in my sister's bad shoulder and needing to round up a bunch of guys to help and it becomes a no brainer.

Oh I hire young strong guys to move my furniture, I’m just not going to trust some scumbag company to drive off with it

I can’t believe these dirtbags get away with this .
No one they’ve pulled this on has offered to pay the extortion , and then knocked off their kneecap ?
It’s hard to make a living moving or truck driving without a knee .
I know a lot of people that it wouldn’t be healthy for you to extort money from them this way. It would be highly likely you would get to see the inside of an ambulance .

and is it Dominion or what company that brings the 20 foot pup trailer to your house for you to load then delivers it to your new house ?

    ABF does that.

    Gotcha

I think the likelihood of ABF holding your furniture hostage is zero .
But most folks have never heard of them offering that service .

Pods quoted a family member of mine 18k to drop 3 "pods" then deliver them 1,200mi away. The 18k price tag is reason enough not to use them. 3 pods fit on one trailer and what do you think an Owner Operator would be paid by Pods?

ABF would definitely be a better option .
Or just renting a Ryder truck and doing it yourself , hiring local labor from a temp agency if you need muscle .

    that’s what I’ve always done ,
    Mostly to save money .

LameMule and Snow Hater Thank this.

He bought a 40ft shipping container and I helped him load it and hauled it for him. When I heard what he was quoted and knew how little Pods pays carriers I told him to buy a container and I'd haul it for fuel. It cost him less than half of Pods quote and he has a new one trip container for storage now.

    mjd4277 and Chinatown Thank this.
