That is idiotic, I have never heard of having to wait for more then a few minutes at the DMV so that they could input the info into the computer.
I did my DOT physical and written on the same day then went back, after doing some driving with a liscensed driver, to take the skills test.
I would not have done it but it was required to even haul our own cars back and forth to auction in Fargo. I got stopped on my way back home to Grafton and had to hire someone to come out and drive the truck back. They never bothered us when we did it using the dually pickup and wedge trailer but once we got the FL70 then it became a problem. Funny thing was that the FL 70 was not much more then an over sized pickup since it had a sycro 6 speed box and the same cummins engine, same number of axles but it did have airbrakes.

So which should they remove.
Drug testing?
Annual inspection?
Road use?
Insurance?
Proper training and testing(alright there is none of that now but there is supposed to be)?
If they are running commercial equipment they should fall under commercial rules. They are a business, no more no less a business.granhawler Thanks this. -
I went back for my P endorsement. Took them a year to get my license straight and to me. They'd send out a new license, but dropped the doubles/triples. Then get that straight and my tanker endorsement was missing. Got that back and the P was missing.
No kidding. Oneyear! -
Like I said before, I have nothing against the american farmer, I mean god bless them for what they do. But around here the farmers have nicer, newer and bigger equipment than the commercial haulers. I mean they haul for there neighbors, there friends & they even do custom hauling for some of the local elevators. So it's OK for them to do that because there farmers but because I'm joe blow with a truck and not a farmer I need a CDL & commercial plates?????? Where's the fairness in that??? Look at the grain prices the past few years, If farmers can afford to buy a newer pete and a set of wilson doubles then they can afford to pay a little more for there license plates. I wouldn't have such a problem with this but all I do is custom grain and feed hauling & when some farmer cuts into my hauling and he doesn't have a CDL or commercial plates or a health card or a logbook but yet I have to jump through all those hoops, Well.........................it pisses me off. Besides all the states and counties are looking for ways to get more money and by making farmers pay more and buy commercial plates theres just that much more money for local government, trust me the farmers can afford it. -
its not for tractors its for the farmers that hire idiot 16 year old high school kids to run thier trucks out of the field if we have to have a cdl why dont they to operate a tractor trailer
-
I give the local vo-tech school here in town alot of credit, they have an agricultural program for wanna be farmers and one of the requirements to pass the course is you have to get your CDL, which I think is a great idea but I still say any farm vehicle bigger than a 3 axle straight truck needs to have commercial plates.
-
I can tell you right now, I live in a farming community and NONE of them will get a CDL and still let their kids run the combine, planter, plows and mowers...The cops don't break up the dog or chicken fighting, moonshining or pot growing, this won't even be a consideration...I was surprised when the farmers in Iowa had a chance to ask Chairman Maobama questions, this wasn't brought up...
