Cricket, 2 lines of unlimited everything for $80 a month. They don’t have much for a mobile hotspot other than using your phone and I won’t put my phone through that.

Yep. Many don’t realize they can/will differentiate smartphone use and hotspot use. I understand there are hacks but even at that you might still get throttled at some point.
PFJ WiFi $100/yr is an outstanding or very good service at probably 75% of locations, fair or good at the rest. -
As driver driver said, my Verizon phone plan is awesome with unlimited everything... But after 15 GB of hotspot data they slow down the connection to like very slow dial-up speed.
driverdriver Thanks this. -
I'm just trying to help a fellow gamer out. I haven't been throttled yet that I know of. You shouldn't have to use redundant satellite/cell connections if you have a good plan. I watch movies and play games, same as my codriver. Single player games I use through Steam are easy, I can load the games and then just unplug cell phone even if I wanted. Multiplayer games I have to leave my phone plugged in for games like League of Legends and Rainbow Six. You can play for like 60 hours and maybe only use about 12 GB. Latency for those games is a different story.. you may or may not have good ping during your games even with the best carriers.

I will have to disagree on the pfj.
I recently bought two weeks cause I wanted to download a couple new games ( over a hundred gigs).
Out of 10 locations I only found one that I could do it at. Couldn't even stream a movie except at one location.
I personally think after they sold a bunch more subscriptions after the upgrade they throttled most of the locations. -
I appreciate the help but I’m just not fond of having a contract for a phone or switching carriers. The way I see it now, with Cricket I get about the same coverage as Verizon (considering cricket uses ATT towers) and I only pay $80 for 2 lines with unlimited everything. If I get just the hotspot with 20gb data, that’s $110. If I was to switch and get the two lines with unlimited everything it would be $150 a month or around $180 if I got the highest plan. However the other line rarely (probably never) has used more than 2gb of data.

It sounds like your two choices are to switch carriers to one that will throttle you at 20 GB if ever, rather than being throttled at 6, or get your separate hotspot.
The ATT hotspot is pretty good. My trainer used that and only had connectivity problems when he tried to play in Minnesota at a rest stop. Granted he didn't try to play very often.
In my case using my phone has just been easier and better for me. Having another hotspot is just another #### thing I'd have to keep track of and occasionally misplace. LoL -
Keeping track of it wouldn’t be an issue for me. I’m a rather organized person and I would have a certain spot for it somewhere in the truck. I think I’m just going to end up with a separate hotspot. This way should I ever need to cancel it, it wouldn’t affect my phone service.

If you are going solo then yeah, being organized you should be good. Me I am disorganized and I have a codriver that moves stuff around on occasion. lol.
Happy gaming.
