Fastest/Reliable mobile hotspot

I use TMobile ONE, I play just fine online with my ps4 pro, sometimes connectivity is an issue in the boonies but otherwise it’s golden. Downloading updates can be problematic but I usually do that at home.

Big fallout fan, and No Mans Sky is fun!

Mind you I don’t get much play time, I’m too busy spinning my drive tires.

 

We only fuel PFJ and as such take 10 hour breaks at them probably 9 out of 10 days. I’ve been on their WiFi plan for 2 years now. Maybe 1 in 8 times I’m unhappy with the realized throughput. The key is to park within about 100 feet of a visible antenna. Also, the hardware you’re using to connect with makes a big difference. My MacBook Pro does great but my iPhone and android phones both have miserable connection speeds to the same WiFi network.

 

I've got a really good Asus ROG laptop and even with line of site and close to the building I have problems.
I know for a fact they've throttled several locations as I have witnessed the difference in speed.
As long as it works for you at the locations you stop at.

 

Get a netgear nighthawk mobile hotspot. Through ATT.

ATT has pretty good speeds in the hicks. Better then the city. The hotspot is capable of 1gig speed. It's 5g capable. And as far as i know. The only device. As far as i know. I haven't kept up lately other then reading that 5g phones won't be out till next year.

It's faster then my phones have been. Downloads wise.

The footprint is also better. Around the state.

I bought mine outright.

 

It's crap if your using it in your truck because...your in a giant metal truck. Surrounded by other giant metal trucks. WiFI signal strength is based on your location being close the emitter. Well...close enough. 5th row back and surrounded by trucks don't expect it to be perfect strength. Mother Nature plays a part to...If it's windy, raining, trees near, etc etc etc. Not to mention all the engines going, cars/trucks going in and out, other drivers on the wifi network, you got radio an cell signals bouncing all over ,etc.

You can always use a signal booster/extender/whatever their called. You can get them at Walmart for like 30 bucks on up.

I know Straight Talk has unlimited data on their cell phones. You can't tether though or make a hot spot. You can use the straight talk hot spot. Not sure if there is an unlimited plan but as a gamer..I'd imagine it won't be cheap if there isn't one. I had one for a week. Worked great. I didn't need it anymore so I sold it to a buddy. If your able I'd go with a big carrier like others above have mentioned that have unlimited data and allow you to tether to your cell. Or make a hot spot from your phone.

I pay $79 a month for true unlimited cellular. The speed is good enough to play a full 1080p HD movie without glitches on Amazon, iTunes, HULU, Xfinity, etc. I have had it for almost a year, and it has worked flawlessly 98% of the time. Where it did not work was where most carriers do not, up in Northern Michigan. It uses T-Mobile for service, and trust me I was hesitant. But, it has worked flawlessly and I use it daily. Even works at the house when the cable goes out, and appears just as fast. I have done a speed test on it, and it comes in at 11 - 15 Mbps. That is pretty good in my book.

Oh, there is no contract, but you do have to buy the hotspot. I think all in it was $200 for set up and the hotspot, then monthly fee. Very happy with mine, and no data slowdowns because I went over my 10gb limit. If you have had ATT and their unlimited internet you will know that it was not unlimited and they throttled you when you went over 10GB or started hitting you with overage fees. Very costly.

I have Sprint phone service now, and when Sprint is not working, T-Mobile is. I expected better out of Sprint. I had ATT, but they were just outrageous on their billing and pricing. The above is still cheaper than my old ATT account and gets the job done.

Look for a hotspot that has 5 gigahertz channel and not just 2.4gigahertz.

You'll get much faster then 11 - 15. I get 60 - 100 on my hotspot and phones.

 

Is it unlimited data? And what are you paying a month? If there is something better out there and around that price point of $70 - $80 a month I'm interested. I have yet to find a deal like I currently have.

 

I don't know about the plans for data these days. I started a year ago with a mobley device that was $20 a month for unlimited. The speeds were equivalent of what you are getting. Then I heard about the nighthawk and changed the sim over to it. Much faster speeds. Probably because of the 5gig channel. The 2.4gig is just as slow. Couple months later ATT tried to change my plan and i said NOOOOOOO. Luckily, my mobley didn't want to recognize the sim anymore so I"m stuck with the nighthawk. But I don't use it these days since I switched my sprint phone over to ATT. Better coverage then both cdma and i get a discount on my tv services for directvnow app.

My chev has a builtin hotspot. That dude came with 1T data. Which ATT shows 970gigs. ATT provides the service but it's a partner thing with onstar. $20 a month. I never used it so i don't have the service anymore.

I've been reading of everyone changing their plans around. So I have no idea on what's being offered these days. Haven't looked lately. And all that will probably be changing again next year when 5G starts rolling out.

 

I hear you on changing plans... The reason I left ATT, way to expensive with 5 iPhones and two iPad pros... Kids and grandkids, wife, mother... I'm a popular guy. I went to Sprint and lowered my bill to $189 a month all in, and that includes everyone getting a brand new iPhone 8, including myself. Yes, Sprint is not as good as ATT, but for well over $300 a month in savings I can put up with the very few annoyances. I have yet to be able to not make a call, and no issues with texting or data overages. Very happy.
