I've heard differing opinions regarding whether it is better to wear polarized or non-polarized sunglasses while driving. Commonly, professional cyclists and race car drivers (NASCAR, F1, IMSA, etc.) wear non-polarized sunglasses. There reason is that polarization can disguise and hide water or oil. The shimmer on the surface simply becomes a darker patch of road and the driver doesn't 'see' that it is water or oil on the road.
Other things I have read says you should wear polarized glasses because the polarization cuts down on glare. (But, it is exactly that glare that identifies a potential road hazard to be aware of)
I wear prescription glasses, so I can't simply go buy a pair anywhere. Through a quirk of a shipping glitch, I've ended up with 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses, one polarized, one not polarized. I typically use the non-polarized pair, because or where I keep them stashed, they are easier to get to. But, I also have my other pair that I grab and use on occasion. Not sure the difference between the two had made any significant difference.
But, it isn't a cut and dry matter on which is better.
