That's no excuse. That is a direct effect of poor money management.

And don't forget you have to buy nine now to get a free one. I just about quit fueling at pilot now. Only when I need a free shower. The points
don't make it worth while or any of their other offers. The only pilots with low prices are where there's some local station selling fuel way cheaper than them. I truly hate pilot and tell them that everytime when asked just like AT&T.

If it wasn't for Pilot [and later Loves], you'd still be fueling at 30 year old 76's and Petros with dirt parking for 60 foot trucks and dealing some truly ALWAYS nasty showers and paying even higher fuel prices with worse or non-existent points systems. Bad mouth them all you want, but they, like Walmart, keep the others honest and the truck stop situation would be dismal if it weren't for Pilot. It would appear truckers, like America, has become very spoiled and seem to think inflation and extremely high prime land costs does not hit truck stop operators, and that they somehow owe drivers "cheap prices and premium services".

I feel the same way as you, they give a 25 or 30 cent a gallon rebate to it's favorite customers and screw us who don't get any kick backs. Company drivers may love Pilot/Flying J's, but for what little you get actually, doesn't make up for the higher cost of the fuel they sell. I only try and fuel at independents who usually do sell the same fuel, only for a lot cheaper, and they have usually decent showers and free coffee, and can be just as friendly, and sometimes even more than these mega-truckstop chains.

Your point is almost valid. Williams used to be a truckstop chain that really upgraded the truckstop market. They lost their shirt, Pilot bought them out, closed the t.v. rooms, and after modeled their newer stores and the same basic layout that Williams used.

Just look around today, there are some really modern and very nice independents out here, almost everywhere. And even back in the day, many of the older truckstops had been remodeling and upgrading their business.

Pilot is a chain that has no love or real interest in helping no one but themselves. They screw everybody, their employee's, customers and us!

    And p.s.

If you come across an old original Pilot, its a dump, just like what you were describing. Basically thats all all the old truckstops were, way back then, but all of them modernized, both independent and mega-chains.

They are a business... of course they are trying to help themselves. What business doesnt try and help themselves? Alot of owner ops complain about fuel prices... are they not trying to help themselves? Because they are a what? a business... When will guys and gals understand that a business is there only for one simple thing and its so easy a cave man can understand it... Their one goal is to make money. Just like owner ops, just like drivers, just like everyone else in the world. When a business starts losing money what usually happens to the CEO? He is fired and a new guy is chosen who can make money. No I dont agree with treating employees like peons but people really need to understand that business is business, its nothing personal. They are not in their offices saying, "hmm how can we mess up truckers lives today?" They are, "How can we make more money today, tomorrow, a month from now, a year, 5 years, etc." Something up sadly with them and with the FBI and IRS involved its big. They may have royally screwed up somewhere.
