Am I qualified to obtain an Amateur Radio license?
If you are a United States citizen, or a foreign national legally in residence in the United States with the proper legal papers, you probably qualify to obtain an Amateur Radio license. Additionally, you must not have any felony convictions, and you cannot work for a foreign government. If you are a foreign national in legal residence with the proper legal papers, you will need a Social Security number and you must file for an FRN (FCC Registration Number) with the FCC as a foreign national. Go to the following link to file for your FRN: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do.
FCC Revokes Another Ham License

Get convicted of a felony and lose your ham license.
The Commission says its character policies "provide that any felony
conviction is a matter predictive of licensee behavior and is
directly relevant to the functioning of the Commission's regulatory
mission.
The revocation order is effective 40 days after that date, unless
Cox appeals.
An Amateur Radio licensee since 1995, Cox has a clean record in
terms of obeying FCC rules and regulations, the Commission said. The
revocation order recounts Cox's 2004 felony burglary conviction that
drew five years' probation. Later the same year, he was arrested on
federal firearms charges and has been incarcerated ever since after
accepting a plea agreement.
The FCC said it finds Cox's "egregious criminal misconduct"
justifies revoking his Amateur Radio ticket. In footnotes, the
Commission cited several cases in which it has applied its character
standards to Amateur Radio licensees. Two of the cases involved
radio-related violations, while one stemmed from a felony conviction
for indecent assault upon and corruption of minors and another from
a felony conviction for computer fraud and lack of candor regarding
that conviction in representations to the FCC.

I really hope they make it down to Memphis. They need to take down all those drug peddlers, especially The Real Deal on ch 22.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
I agree, those LEO's that have that setup need to shut it down! They are not busting anyone anymore and it is herassment to the fullest! I have written the Mayor and Chief of Police,,,with no reply. I figure if we all continuously write them, they will eventually shut it down. -
Not so good that the FCC is doing.
-
Oh so they are in the business of being the moral police too?!?!?!? That's a slippery slope if I ever heard one. Next it will be a J-Walking ticket will get your license pulled too.
Of all the things they could be doing such as trying to find ways to get more people into HAM radio by using a carrot instead of a stick they kick people out of it because of a felony???
Give em a few more years and they will put the manufacturers of HAM radios out of business!
It wasn't too long ago we forgave felons now we treat them like they have the same mark on their foreheads like our elected officials in D.C. 😠 -
In talking to the locals over there they claim one of those is the cops and one is in fact a drug dealer. They told me which one but I forgot. I've always thought it would be fun to go over there with my Texas Star 667V and mess with them all day. About a 5 hour drive for me, so I doubt I ever do it. My luck I would make the cop mad and he'd sic his buddies on me........I wouldn't want to get into it with them.....the drug dealers on the other hand.........

How many times do we "forgive" a felon? What if...and this is just that..a "what if", what if your daughter was a proud ham. She talks to some dude on the local repeater. He seems "nice", but what she (and you) doesn't know, he is a convicted child molester. He is slick, a smoothe talker, adept at luring young girls (or boys). Would you WANT this person whose character you cannot know, but IS, in fact, a danger to your child meeting her at MCD's for an "eyeball QSO"? I wouldn't.
Its not about being "snobs". Its about having some sort of obstacles in place for those who have a tendency to break the law, to be a danger to the rest of us. In this world where everybody seems to want to accept anything and everything, where character is unimportant anymore, we are now seeing unprecedented incidents of people placed in danger by people of questionable character. While it may be nice to 'forgive' people, we at the same time have now adopted a policy of "unconditional surrender" and people must be given (or forgiven) of everything. We must not be required to EARN anything anymore. We are not willing to WORK for privileges and stand in honor of...yes, being an Amateur Radio Operator among other things. Let's just give away licenses in Cracker Jack boxes. Let's just let people do anything they want to on the radio. Let's not require some sort of benchmark before allowing people to just do whatever they please.
When someone has shown their tendency, especially multiple times, to break laws, it shows that that person has no respect for law and the citizens around him. Therefore he should have to work much harder for whatever privileges he gets--and that includes the privilege of operating an amateur radio station. He *may* not be a child molester, and he may not even break any civil laws. But we don't know until this person proves his reliability again. You gotta start somewhere.Big_m Thanks this. -
I'm still waiting... taking something off of a forum as fact with no reference isn't actually facts.
BUT I did some searching, and yes that happened and so what if it did.
here's why.
When you get convicted of a felony, you are supposed to lose your rights on many things, voting is one of them. Another example is the lose the right of protection against indentured servitude (yes it is in the constitution but never used) which can be used as a punishment under our constitution (and bypasses the cruel and unusual punishment thing).
AND ...
while that's all good and well, this issue happened almost 10 years ago.Big_m Thanks this. -
10 years ago, we better lower the tower and hide the radios......
-
I mess with them any and everytime I am in the area... I don't care if I make them mad, I don't even care if they find me and complain or arrest me....
