I wouldn't say I'm scared of the height, but I do get nervous seeing a hay truck coming at me across the Platte/Winner bridge across the Missouri on 44 in South Dakota. Kinda funny, was absolutely scared #### less of any bridge as a kid.
Fear Of Height, and going over tall bridges???

Bridges have only worried me once... Tydings bridge on I-95 in MD that crosses the Susquehanna River was at a stand still for a wreck. Southbound was still rolling like normal, so an hour of sitting on a bridge pretty high above a river with it shaking every time a big truck crossed a seam on the other side. My faith in the engineers that designed it wasn’t as high as normal when watching thousands of tons sitting on the bridge at one time.
MACK E-6, Grumppy and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Try the ambassador bridge if you ever cross at windsor/detroit... get stuck on that the trucks going the other way sure do make it bounce. Kinda get used to it.

It always cracks me up when people say they’re not afraid of heights. Here’s the thing about Heights. If you fall, you fall just the same as anyone, fearful or not…Lol so in that aspect everyone at least respects heights. Since starting trucking I’ve been over some crazy bridges two had less than a foot of room between mirrors and the truck coming the other direction. High up over the Mississippi River nonetheless. I get a little nervous up there I must admit. Also, at the end of the day bridges are man-made structures and they have collapsed many times.
I tend to definitely do what the original poster suggested, go slow and just focus down the center of the lane right in front of me and not look over the edge.gentleroger, Grumppy and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I was parked on a bridge while waiting in line, the amount that bridge shook when trucks drove over it had me wanting off that thing immediately

I'm not as well traveled as you all but there used to be a single lane double decker bridge cross the Missouri River in Yankton SD that I hated. Also Decatur Nebraska also crossing the Missouri there is a old steel bridge with expanded steel decking you can see through and it makes a crap ton of noise when driving over
Rideandrepair, silverspur and Grumppy Thank this. -
What I don't like are some of the flyovers where all I see above the concrete wall is the sky, like when going from the northbound SH Tollway onto the westbound Katy Fwy. Or in Austin when going from westbound 45 onto northbound 183. As far as bridges, I really don't like the Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge, especially when I have to stop on it and feel it bouncing.
Rideandrepair, sevenmph and Grumppy Thank this.
