I pay him 10% and he does all of my safety and compliance. Not a bad trade off to me since at this moment I'm not quite there yet with the paperwork aspect of the business.
He's just branching out now and allowing me to deal with different brokers, while over the last year here he's been strictly wanting to deal with CHR because of the advance and quick pay options. I'm a hard runner, but hopefully this new broker stuff will last and I will be able to turn less miles for equivalent money.

Not bad, you should be doing better in the next month if you keep up the miles. Can't wait for summer to get here,
good times.

It's a 98. Probably set up for best efficiency at 55mph. Not sure what ratio the rears are, but I'm turning about 1500rpm at 60mph, and 1750-ish rpm at 75mph. That's probably where the fuel is going. And yes, if the temp is under 38 degrees, the truck is idling. The whole truck has 330K on it, and I don't think the engine has ever had an overhead run on it. The owner hasn't been as concerned about fuel economy as I would be if I owned the truck.

A '98 with 330k on it? You sure that there isn't a 1 that's hidden at the front of that number?

I pay all of those expenses. I haven't borrowed money from the company ever and a deal with any issues myself. I own the trailer. The only freebies I got here were some $2 IFTA stickers lol. I'm as close as one can get to being independant. They do fuel taxes and collections. They don't front me fuel money, that is by my own choice though.. Later leases are different than mine. I don't think cargo gets charged back on some of these latest ones but really not 100% sure on that, their cut is smaller. Later leases have the option to pull their own trailer or power only.. I've been a 92% of gross for the past 13 months. That is, wait on the checks to roll in, however long that may take and collect 92%.. Well, it kind of sucks having anywhere from $20,000-$40,000 in receivables hanging out there at any one time depending on how busy I am. The first week of Feb I dropped back to 89% and get paid weekly - this is why it looks like 10%. I was the first truck to lease on under his authority so the deal was really sweet. Later leases were a couple of points less. The latest ones will be provided with plates, not be charged back for cargo, some other freebies and their percentage will reflect that. There is 24 hour dispatch now looking for loads. We used to be like a mini Landstar, find your own self disptach. Now there's a touch of Mercer in there as well. Seems to round things out well. I still find my own loads most of the time, dispatch will call and offer up possible loads for me to bid on while I'm driving down the road to a delivery. Even though I'm fairly quick at finding loads I do like getting those calls... I'll give them a general idea of what I'm looking for and have them look mostly at the Allianace loadboard for expedited stuff. They have other good sources for general freight as well. I think this new dispatch system will be a great thing for a lot of people leasing on here cause in all honesty not everyone is ready to be thrown to wolves of loadboard freight or does so great with it. I always tell anyone who's interested in working here, yes you can make money, but it's all dependant on you... I make it look easy but it's not. You'd flip out if you saw what I did on a typical day, how I land the freight, string together a week.. No-one's going to give you money and every little decision you make, well understand, you make the decisions...... No-one can sit there and tell you, this is what you should run for or that, you have to learn the market... I love it here and make very good money. I think anyone who leases here has the opportunity to do very well with a truck if they run smart.
