Not Teamsters, and a completely different business model. FedEx ground sells routes to contractors, and they often turn around and hire drivers to run the routes. It can be very lucrative for the contractors, and less so for the subcontractors.
In my opinion, FedEx freight is a far better company to work for. They pay well, and they even do a pension for their employees despite not being union. That's pretty good in my book.

No pension for employees hired after 1/1/20. Current employees were grandfathered in. New employees get an 8% match to their 6% 401k contribution. Which is phenomenal. They were going to offer pension employees the ability to convert to that and suspend pension contributions but I am not sure if that was postponed with COVID.Cardfan89 and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

Ok. Didn't know that I always thought they were. I guess they work on a different wage raise system and there is no seniority then?LtlAnonymous Thanks this.

2 seniority lists. 1 for city drivers and one for Linehaul drivers. You go to the bottom of either list if you change job titles or transfer to different service centers.
Wage rates are defined in a table in multi step increments, each step is advanced at a year of service.Gearjammin' Penguin and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
What are the Linehaul rates for those LTL drivers in NY/OH that drive those double 53ft trailers and triples ?
-
Additiona .05 per mile and additional 1/4 hour of pay on the hook/drop.The Shadow, Texas_hwy_287 and Danny707 Thank this.

Are you FedEx Freight road or city?
Just put in an application for FedEx Freight City driver apprentice a week or so ago. I know it takes a while for them to review applications. Hoping this could be a good option.jmz and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -

I did both at my time with FXF, was on road until I left.
If you are picked for it, you’ve hit LTL lottery.Speed_Drums, Grove_LA, LtlAnonymous and 1 other person Thank this. -
I hope so. I’ve heard stories of guys working docks forever and things like that in LTL. Hoping that being in Southern California it will be plenty busy to work my way up the list to a good spot. Main goal would be to eventually go line haul but the only opening at the spot closest to me in was a coty apprentice and figured it’s better to try and get my foot in the door.jmz Thanks this.
