I might be going to dump truck work for a while, and I've been out of work for a couple of months now so I let my medical card expire. I've been told by a couple of different people now that I don't need the physical for dump truck. Are they misinformed or is this true? Hate to get caught with my pants down by the state boys...
Im in WI by the way...
Fed med not needed for dump trucks?

If you stay in Wi, you're probably Intrastate. If you're lucky enough to be working intrastate, probably some (not all) of the Federal rules apply. I live in Tx, we have different HOS rules than the feds for Intrastate driving.
If you have a Driver's map book, look up your state contacts- that's a good question for your DMV or State Police Comm Veh Dept. Make 'em earn their pay. Maybe it's a small dump truck, under 10,000 lbs?dieselpowerrules Thanks this. -
No its a quad axle dump, thats why I was thrown for a loop when I heard I didn't need the card/physical...dave26027 Thanks this.

To drive in intrastate or interstate commerce, you must have passed a medical examination, within the past 2 years, in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 49 CFR 391, Subpart E, as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Medical Examination Report
(415 KB).
Acceptable proof of examination for the Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a fully completed Medical Examiners Certificate found on the last page
(415 KB). A medical examiner will need to complete the FMCSA Medical Examination Report for Commercial Driver Fitness Determination as well as the certificate at the end of the packet. You will need to carry a copy of this certificate with you when operating a commercial motor vehicle. We recommend that you make a copy of your card to keep in your files. Instructions for the medical examiner are included in this document.

Just my opinion but checking the source of the law is always better than checking with a driver. Keeps the wannabe lawyers out of it. -
So, you think you were the only one to have checked the Wisconsin law out?
