I understand completely. I am 31 and have been at this for gong on 9 years now. I have done just about everything from hoppers to containers to tanks to lowboy to dumps. Just looking for a steady income and home time. I have been OTR for the last 3 years and still manage to find a good woman and getting married in Oct next year so I want to keep this one, even tho she says she does not mind me being gone, I know it is tough on her and myself.
Dump rates up here are not very good, plus it is winter time so everyone is laid off with no work. So that is out of the question for me.
Fed Up......time for a change.

I thought freight would be good running chicago, mi wi area local. I am lucky. I am home every night, & freight has picked up the last 8 weeks, running our butt's off.
SHC Thanks this. -
Alot of Ethanol plants are picking back up. Might look into getting a hopper or end dump and hauling out of the plants. Where I live west of Indy we have 2 plants pretty close by and run alot up to Joliet and back. Might be worth checking into. I am not doing this by the way. I have thought about it though...

What about container companies in Chicago, I always see them looking for Owner-Operators.

Freight around Chicago is good and there are plenty of companies around Chicago hiring O/O but either they are OTR, gone all week or the pay is too low. I called 3 companies earlier I know of in Chicago and 2 only had otr/regional stuff and paid $1.00 mile and the other one had lots of local work but the avg daily pay was about $400-$450 pulling vans. I'd also have to bobtail 120 miles everyday to work which is another $70 out of my pay in fuel cost each day.
I really don't want to do van freight, It all seems like cheap rate stuff and I refuse to be a part of the problem with the rates. I know the local stuff usually gets $3 mile so why would I settle for $1 mile??volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
I appreciate all te comments so keep them coming. I can't really do any research till I get home tomorrow anyways, so all these ideas are coming in handy. Too bad most places are closed on the weekends and I am back on the road Monday morning lol

The Menards in Schererville is looking for someone to make there deliveries for them.
SHC Thanks this. -
I believe this would require me to have my own authority and also a roll-off flatbed which I do not have either tho it is worth a call. Thank you.

Well. I live in your area SHC. I live actually just across the line. If your gonna run dumps I would say IBC out of Chicago Heights. Problem is this time of year all the rates suck. As far as running a flat unless you have all your own numbers and a trailer your gonna be sitting pretty in all the steel mills waiting in line. I would look into Beelman as I have talked with some of their O/O and they seem happy and usually are only gone a day or two a week. Off on weekends. As far as Altom I would stay away from them anyways. The dude that parks where I do is leased to them and he is NOT happy.
volvodriver01 and SHC Thank this. -

SHC Thanks this.
