You have to have a PA inspection done on both pieces no matter what and the feds accept that inspection. So why bother with anything else?

Quite a few states actually have this inspection system. Massachusetts does annual inspections on all vehicles registered in the state.

What's to keep an O/O from just slapping a sticker on and calling it good? Seems like there's a big margin for error there.

Some states have a database that keeps track of vehicles that went through a legitimate inspection.

For federal inspection? Nothing. For state inspection? They're databased and the stickers are inventoried and controlled by the government.

    brian991219 and mjd4277 Thank this.

and for sale on Facebook marketplace and ebay...While it is the equallvalent, FMCSA stickers with a matching date are cheap = cheap insurance in my book.

When I started driving, a Level I DOT inspection with no violations was accepted as a valid Annual Inspection. Don't know if they still allow that.

I’ve always just filled out my own. If they didn’t want that to be an option then they’d take that option away.
