No.
Most of the panther trucks are paid on percentage, and there is a lot of deadhead and down time in between loads.Stringb8n Thanks this. -

Never been with FedEx, but I was at one time with Panther way back when it was Panther Transportation II. Did a lot of sitting, sometimes for several days. Went into Cananda a lot, only to usually have to deadhead back out and then be offered some bs load going right back to Canada. Back then they had a first in first out policy, but if you turned down a load offer or empty move they'd put you to the bottom of the board. I am not sure how its run now, but it was a revolving door back then. On the upside most of the freight was really light. Often not more than a couple of pallets.

Years ago I regularly talked to Panther drivers that drove cargo vans. They almost had me doing that. What I liked is didn't have to fight for parking at truck stops and could park anywhere, even in automobile parking spots. I don't know if Panther and V3 and a few others still have that or not.
They were running all over the country and the 0/0 cargo van drivers had RV power units added so they didn't have to idle to sleep or watch TV and all that.

Some companies use Sprinter Vans and can drive a company van or be an owner-operator.
