I was contacted by a head hunter for one of the major cryo gas companies yesterday. I'm going to take the interview to see what it's about and get the scoop on it. If I can get back to working days with a 5am-7am start and consistent work, I may consider it...

My interest in this company is due to the following:

    A manufacturer, not a forwarder
Gas/Energy commodities seem to have a much less volatile ebb and flow of business during economic/political turbulence
Days, possibly without climbing a 45 driver long list requiring 31 drivers to move on before sniffing a 7am bid

I figure between $28-$30/hr would be fine to work with. Even if I'm not cranking O/T I can keep my P/T position with the other regional carrier going and run that when I want to supplement the income.

The gravity of this line of work really hit home to me last Friday morning when I got back to the house before my middle child was off to school.

"Dad, can we go outside and play catch?"
"How about Saturday, Dad's exhausted right now."
"Ok, I just don't get to play with you or see you anymore and I want you to come to karate with me".

Of course, I ended up working Saturday because of my intense fear of a sudden work/income stoppage due to where I fall on the seniority list as well as the directions the company is taking, so my little boy (the one of my 3 kids that totally idolizes me) got the shaft, and I have been losing sleep over it ever since.

Nah it was a D11000 series and I was able to replace it with another one. I'm kind of picky about the kind I use, and those check all the boxes but aren't new enough to disappear if left unattended.

I thought I did good in the yard, but I guess they really do have enough people who are already trained/scheduled for it. Plus, if they do have call offs and need extra help, they'll find someone else to go out there long before I get back after a double turn.

That's exactly why I'm the yard guy now. I shaved my beard off and my daughter didn't notice for four days. That means (to me) I wasn't around nearly enough and had to get off the linehaul.

I know how that goes man. I’ve been looking for other jobs for a couple months now. It’s something how much FXF has changed in the couple years I’ve been here. Plus I know I do not want to be on nights the rest of my career here. I’m just not sure what I want to do if I end up changing jobs. I’ve never had a certain career field I wanted to be in. I’m keeping my eyes open. Best of luck on that cryo job.

Heck, I've only been here since September of 2018, and the changes I've seen in that time from when I started are drastic. Senior guys all echo the same sentiment: the company immediately began spiraling downward when Ducker retired.

Ur lucky in that respect. Fam is the best thing in the word. But it's a dilemma which a child may not be able to clearly understand, nevermind many adults may not be able to clearly understand; We all want to spend more time with family/close ones, but the more time we spend with fam, the less time to make money. And the fam needs money..... The more time u spend making money, the more money for the family----but less actual time WITH the family......

What's the solution? i don't know? Do you have personal days like us?

When i was coming up, it kinda became clear that the weekends were "family time." This suited me fine because i was busy with school and other interests during the week.
i'm really not sure what the solution is.
