I was reading something something elsewhere... the guy didn't say what company, but it was LTL and they were facing furloughs. 5 would be furloughed at their center, and 10 drivers per shift would come in only to be sent home with no work for the foreseeable future. Not sure how many that would leave driving, but 15 drivers down at one location? The economy is spiraling.

Lenz: Nov 12th
"We've eliminated roughly 8 or 9 international frequencies, about 23 domestic frequencies thus far that were -- came into the schedule change we did in October. We've got another 8 or 9 domestic frequencies that will go in, in November. So we're rigorously looking at that and evaluating our plans for post peak here as we come into the beginning of the calendar year after the holiday season.
So besides reducing the flight frequencies, we'll be parking aircraft temporarily as we don't need as much lift as we anticipated going into the year..."Opus Thanks this. -

As with a lot of things in the world it depends on location. I work on the Freight side and don't know anything about the aircraft. But every year we have bid runs to go help ground do linehaul. Except this year as a now we have zero expectations of doing any ground runs this year. Other centers that we meet started doing ground runs a month ago.
Some areas peak is going as normal and some are very slow. My Freight center on the linehaul side. We have somewhere around 70 drivers right now and are 6-7 drivers over staffed. That number will probably increase over the next few months.
The possibility of a rail strike has become a popular conversation topic. People are hoping that will carry centers thru winter.LilRedRidingHood Thanks this. -
The domestic frequencies that are being eliminated were an experimental 3rd sort they started earlier this year. Point is, not as dire on the flight side. We had been overstretched for a long time in flight, so this all is really more of a return to normal levels.AsphaltFarmer Thanks this.
