Your probably passing the Kevin Rutherford owned Ground trucks..lol
-
There are a few daycab ground trucks in the Minneapolis area, but most are sleeper, and they pass me like I'm barely moving.
379exhd and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Hints WHY FedEx GROUND drivers can flat out fly with a set of joints and FedEx freight cannot. I know ground is all independents and aren't employees of FedEx per say but they're still paid by FedEx, and it still says FedEx on the trailer. And technically speaking fedex should be checking who those contractors are putting in those trucks. Reason is fedex has requirements for their contractors. I read them about a year ago. They should revise them on their site by all means because it does not appear that many of the ground drivers meet the requirments that were listed a year ago. That being said...

FedEx freight drivers around here are starting to take pages out of grounds book. They're becoming inconsiderate and they're starting to throw caution to the wind like ground drivers do. Idk if FedEx just shoves tight deadlines on y'all or what but seems like its getting worse and worse. FedEx freight used to be respectable. Much better than UPS least around here, now roles have reversed. There's better companies out there IMO. SAIA, R&L. Hell you can be a casual driver for ABF For $15.50/hour with a year of exp. Which isn't bad for being home every night in my area. Wouldn't work in NYC, but in my area that's not bad. FedEx is throwing rates of $10/hour if they don't shred your app. There are more options all need to be explored before making a decision. You can. Support FedEx that's your deal. Ive never thought highly of them. Nor would I recommend them. -
Uh I've been passed by them before. You're right they pass like you're up on blocks. When I pass them I'm usually hugging the grass on the median because they put that left steer tire in your lane. I just don't think highly of FedEx. When I'm talking to some of the guys I work with we always joke when were passing a FedEx truck or see one. Yep hang on...alright made it past him. Yea #### near had to take the median hopefully he enjoys the smell for the next 5 miles or so.
What can I say bullhaulers are kinda onery at times lol.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Freight trucks are owned by FedEx and governed...Ground trucks are not owned by Fedex..

Fed Ex is going to be building a new terminal on ocalas northside.
Walmart is building a new DC on the other side of the st johns.
Just things to keep in the back of your mind.
Retiring from a WM DC would be sweet !!!!DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I drove for FedEx Ground last winter when I got laid off from YRC (slow season) and they FedEx does hire you. I had to fill out an app at the terminal and they wanted 1 year recent experience, no cell phone ticket, and no more than 3 moving violations. They also said no felony or misdemeanor. I ran otr teams and my truck was governed at 65 mph. Y'all are right when you say the lanes are bought by independent contractors and they are the ones that put you in their trucks. That's only after you pass FedEx hiring requirements and backround check. Had to take a road test and safety stuff too. It was the same as when I got hired to work for FedEx Express (worst job ever)! The only difference with FedEx Express was we had to go to a class for a week to learn how to be couriers.

is fedex freight a good company
-
I have no complaints. Been with them 16 months. Averaging 2300-2500 miles per week. Home every day. I get paid for everything I do. On pace to hit $80,000 this year.
If you don't like driving at night or have a problem with being on a forklift, then they may not be for you.
