I've been approached by a company with three new white rigs. Their name is on the doors, but all bear Fedex DOT numbers. Does this mean the rigs are owned by Fedex, or the company?

To be a Fedex Ground contractor, do you have to buy/lease the rigs from Fedex?

Is there any place to verify they have a Fedex contract?

Any info would be helpful. They want a double and triple license.

    Thanks.

Fed Ex Ground uses independent contractor equipment and drivers contracted to Fed Ex Ground, they operate under Fed Ex authority. Each contractor must be an incorporated entity. You can look up the dot number at

Fedex ground uses a lot of multi-unit contractors. They, in turn, employ drivers for the trucks they run. These drivers must pass Fedex's qualifications in order to get the job and, but are not Fedex employees. There are hundreds of contractors like this running for fedex and the pay and bennies they give the drivers are all over the place. If you look at the sides of some of these trucks, it will say Fedex and their DOT number, but many will also show a different company name too. That company will be the entity that owns the trucks and employs the drivers
