i was a pickup and delivery contractor with ground for 7 years. there was a big change in the way we were treated from 1999 to 2006. they wanted all the tax benefits of the contractor model, but more and more towards the end wanted to boss us around like employees.
don't get me wrong i loved what i did and had 1000's of great customers (only one arsehole) but there were some changes in my personal life and an opportunity to get out arose... took it and never looked back.

FedEx Ground is a good way to go. Like with any FedEx truck, you never get hassled by the DOT because they treat FedEx freight like U.S. Mail.

Hello guys,
I am thinking of buying a FedEx Ground linehaul route business. Question to those guys who already owns or knows someone who owns more than one linehaul route. Do you think it's a good idea to buy it in today's economy? I don't know much about this business. What questions should I be asking?
I found some guys on this forum who posted back in 2007, tried to PM them but can't since my post count is <50.
Thanks guys,

Any word about fed ex ground. They aggressively hire owner operators. Do they really give what they promise? Do they really give you 2000 miles hub to hub and going home every night?

i currently work at fed ex ground as a package handler/yard switcher. i enrolled in a fed ex approved truck driving school because i found a contractor willing to hire me. i am pretty cool with our dispatcher and he says the average truck brings in about 550 a day take home. my contactor currently owns ten trucks and i dont know how many routes. all the drivers ive talked to told me they like working for fed ex. i figured driving for a year or so and saving up enough for my own route and truck would be a good way to go. the best way to find out what you need is to call your local fed ex ground and talk to the dispatcher.
