In 2017 the US had a higher rate of gun violence than Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria.
The United States has the 28th-highest rate of deaths from gun violence in the world: 4.43 deaths per 100,000 people in 2017 — far greater than what is seen in other wealthy countries.

Guess that is your opinion. This doctor would disagree, as facts bear out statistically.
Dr. David Hemenway discussed the impact of firearm suicides on the national suicide rate for the United States. Reducing access to methods has proven successful in impacting overall suicide rates, as efforts in other nations including Japan and Great Britain have shown. He discussed research findings on firearm access and suicide, cross-national data, and issues of data collection.

Pretty impressive, considering we own 41% of all guns in the entire world. Over 400,000,000 guns, yet we only manage 40k deaths, and less than 20k murders per year, in a country of 330,000,000 people.Sirscrapntruckalot, JonJon78 and Trucker61016 Thank this.

I would far prefer an individual end it with a gun than deciding jumping or running in front of a tractor trailer is a good idea. That ruins more than just their day. Small example, but sadly in time, for many, if there is a will they will find a way.

How many guns does it take to kill one person? I don't think it's impressive at all. We lead the western world by a long shot. No pun intended.Still undecided Thanks this.

Remove criminals from the data. Then give us numbers. Because no matter what laws you pass. They'll still get guns. They also account for the majority of gun deaths.

Also the fact we used to put people into institutions, we no longer do that and simply medicate everything with a pill, but we live amongst people who 40 years ago would be in the asylum, not on the streets roaming free....

Ummm a criminal or desperate person will get a gun regardless of laws in place thats the definition of a lawbreaker lol..but keep living in fantasy that somehow America is only one that experiences gun violence, since you said we're number 28, wonder who the top 5 are ??? I'd wager the middle east has more gun deaths....I'd also say the majority of US gun deaths happen in Chicago or LA, with the gangs running the streets....InTooDeep, calnca, JonJon78 and 1 other person Thank this.

I thought this article was well written and balanced putting these matters in context.
