After doing a little reading on exactly what a grease trap entails, you might be suffering from exposure to hydrogen sulfide. That stuff is no joke. It can kill you in a heartbeat if the concentration is high enough.

Did your company provide any confined space training regarding hydrogen sulfide? I would think cracking open a grease trap in an enclosed room with no ventilation would be a very bad idea.

This stuff isn't a joke. It only took one day to feel like I was going to die. I think when you disturb it that's when the gas becomes present and fills the room. So when you open the lid it smells...when you put in the hose...start sucking...that's when the gas fumes comes off it.

I'm kinda of surprised I was feeling ill after work not during work, but based on what you wrote....it is basicly a long term killer or even on the spot. If I were to open one that hasn't been cleaned in a long time, the chances of it being more concentrated in hydrogen sulfide would be higher. The traps I posted were cleaner ones, they get worse than that being all black resembling closer to a septic tank

I guess it is similar to chlorine gas

If you cannot do it without getting physically too sick to carry on, then that work is not for you.|

They actually discovered Lime Powder form for bulk tanking as too sick for me, I was issued the approrpriate levels of protection to filter that dust out but the damage has already been done, I cannot be around lime powder, not even in a horse farm setting where I first used it long ago.

Find something else to work if something sickens you beyond functioning properly.

As far as chorine gas you will exhibit a classic reaction when you begin to hold your ribs in the front as if to contain the pain of your drowning lungs. World War One soldiers including my grand father had that. (He was heavy weapons D company corporal in charge of trench mortors, the germans has the same thing, fires about a thousand yards or so at a place called mount of the falcon or little gibraltar. Anyway one went off burning his legs and he got some of it into his system.

You can make the same gas at home by accident by cleaning supplies in kitchen (Which I wont list because a terrorirst might be looking for ideas) and combine two of them presto one dead kitchen cleaner.

No training. My take is my boss doesn't want to do it himself, charges over 100-150 per tank....45/min each...

    15 so a night

I will talk to him about it...if he doesn't pay me more to do this.... Sorry I rather not actually kill myself for his 20 an hour

I did a little bit of reading on it...and it explains why other guy he had left. He said always felt tired....which is one of side affects of hydrogen sulfide from breathing it in
    Body starts getting sick

Actually I don't think I'd do it unless it were substantially more money.

The kid that did it before probably did not know what I do....

No ministry of labour inspector is going to come at night and catch you in violation

I don't like places like this. I was always taught safety first....not ### backwards looking for a sucker to take the risks

There's no cracking the window....because there isn't one. I could leave front doors open....disable alarms take risks people stealing while I'm working....but that front door is not near anywhere where I am, and we did this last night while one guy was running hose I was doing the sucking

A couple bux more even isn't going to do it for me

    I think I'm done here....for a good reason

Wear a proper respirator, never mind the heat as that has no effect on wearer. Plenty of trades folks work in sweltering heat with full scuba gear FFS! Obviously if you can't figure out how to protect yourself from hazardous elements any damage you do to yourself is your own fault through ignorance.

Weed will be legal in Canada July 1 2018. Every province every city

He knows what he is talking about

Maybe I will be possibly delivering weed soon

I don't smoke l, I'd transport it if there was a legal job for it though. Makes me wonder if truckers will be able to drive stoned. We don't have DOT regulations here that clearly define that you can't drive under this substance or that substance. Although they will be doing roadside screening to test for it. 5 hours before you drive to be in range to pass a test driving a vehicle or something like that.

So is the boss not teaching you about it. A place like that that teaches you nothing about safety when your dealing with harmful fumes, is ### backwards to me.

Last kid that worked there was early twenties. No one told him better, he probably did not know better. I take it he quit because he had too, I looked at paperwork...traps were actually skipped and said they were complete. Opening it and see it you can tell...kid complained about being tired all the time, a side effect from the fumes

    But you have a point

Work isn't not demanding, or hard
