I tried to get her to come back to teaming and go with ODFL but she didn't want anything more to do with trucking. .. -
Location is WI, hence WI Cupcake haha.
I don't mind highway TV, and you said it - I'm not faint of heart. I need something that pays the diety darned bills. (btw are you guys liking my clean cussing? Haha)
OD or Estes might be a viable option. I have all the time in the world to look right now. Not moving much this week, but that's a story for a PM if anyone wants to know. (not sure if I can even PM here yet... Oh well...)
The truest irony in all of this is that though early in this career, the thought has crossed my mind to find out about SFI, and THAT actually looks like a good deal with the pumpkin people. Talked to many O/O or L/O on the choice program that are very happy. Just this company thing in dry van that sucks. -
Since you live in wisconson try verha in green bay
WI Cupcake Thanks this. -
WI Cupcake, did you think about teaming at Schneider ?
-
It crossed my mind at one point. Would have to know my team driver though.
Looking at Veriha out of Green Bay, I'm not so sure that would be a good move. Just looking around on the boards I tend to find more dissent than praise for them.
If I went flatbed, what would that entail? I'm aware of the 150mi stop to check load securement, and having to tarp the load. What else is there about flatbed work? -
Wow, I'm about 6 months solo with my Swift gig, gunning for a year. I'm saddened to hear that 1800 miles a week is what you are getting, WI Cupcake. I'm averaging about 2450, running about 4-6 weeks away from home at a time.
I commiserate with your tales of searching for decent empties, long live unloads, etc. That is an unfortunate part of the game.
It is also unfortunate but true that this industry is driven by insurance companies and the way it is structured is that the better paying jobs seem to require experience that the mega carriers provide. Hence it seems like we have to "pay our dues" to be able to apply for those jobs.
I wish you all the best in your search for the "livable wages" in this industry. Have a plan. Work the plan.
Personally, I'm looking toward becoming an OTR O/O, but need to get recent experience under my belt.tow614 and WI Cupcake Thank this. -
I think the best thing for you to do is team. Schneider will help you find a partner.
-
Do yourself a favor next time and avoid these OTR companies. It's just common sense. I've never worked for an OTR company and niether should you. Do your time and get out. I've asked on here what is a good company to work for after a year of OTR BS but I have never gotten a response.
Good luck.OttMan and WI Cupcake Thank this. -
A little harsh, 07. OTR does have a Lucy-Linus quality, the mega carrier Lucy, holding the football that Linus wants so dearly to kick. Lucy promising that this time she'll hold the ball and he can, finally, give it a good kick. Of course, she never does. Always pulls it away at the last. Linus always falls for it.
All the same, I liked sleeping in a different state every night.WI Cupcake, Lepton1 and okiedokie Thank this.
