Couldn't have said it better myself. I am very happy with Schneider Bulk. I pocket over a grand a week easily. With that said though, there is no way I would ever drive for the van side. I cannot figure out why people stay van. You give up so much money.
Feels like a mistake.

Cupcake, you have a few options, Roehl is a pretty decent overall choice for a newbie if you want to stay OTR and they have a yard in Appleton on the south side of the airport so you wouldn't be too far from the yard. Most other companies that are worth their salt want some experience though.
For local work you may have a tough time with no experience. I'm not sure about manitowoc but in the fox cities we have tons of companies but most of them are union shops without much turnover (UPS, Fedex, USF Holland all come to mind). Mark stevens posted in this thread earlier and he can probably give you more updated info than me but I worked for N&M transfer in Neenah years ago and it really was one of the best jobs I've had. Left it for a different line of work and if I wanted to stay local I would be back working for them now. They require experience but it's worth a shot. I started on the loading dock 3rd shift when I was 18, I already had my CDL so the job was my in when I turned 21. Then got promoted to a yard spotter for a while then started driving at 21. I think most of the drivers at N&M do more miles a day than you do. N&M is one of the few LTL companies that pay miles and stops rather than hourly pay (unless you're within 50 of the terminal). I don't know what the pay is now but when I was there mileage rate was .40ish plus 7.50 per stop or drop/hook (you get paid once for the drop and once for the hook). Add it all up and the pay is typically better than hourly. Not trying to convince you to work there it's just the only company I have first hand experience with.
I know central transport has a terminal in Oshkosh and always has signs up that they're hiring but if you read reviews on them it can be kind of hit or miss as well.Victor_V and WI Cupcake Thank this. -
Thank you guys for the helpful advice. I will keep Roehl in my back pocket for now.
Seems like I truly got hosed in SNI dry van. I spoke with a friend who works SNI dedicated flatbed and he's grossing over 1k/wk... then there's the comment from the SNI bulk driver... Let that be a lesson to anyone wanting to to SNI dry van I guess haha. -
I don't know if schneider bulk is avail to you. it wasn't when I inquired about it, but again that was long ago.
Another good WI based com is Millis. I know a few who drive for them and they are happy -
Millis requires 1 year experience unless you do the cdl school through them
-
I can try to pitch myself to them though. Maybe a drive and a back would be sufficient since I'm still pretty fresh out of school. I know I know I know it's the insurance companies that make or break your ability to be hired, I know. Nothing ventured nothing earned.
Millis and Roehl, any other good (or better than what I got haha) ones? -
what about Prime, not home much though it seems.
H O Wolding is in WI. can't even have a misdemeanor conv with them though. they run van 48 and Canada. -
Ehh... Go have a look over at the Millis board. One thread in particular sticks out like a sore thumb: DriverCams. Lots of dissent and low moral being reported due to those cameras in the cabs. Thoughts?

they're only in a few trucks. just trying them out right now I believe. seems like a "few" making a lot of noise about them. I personally wouldn't like them, but as technology becomes available companies will jump on it, until it costs them money or people.
Roehl puts them in some trucks as well. I think their's is more a decision based on driver performance.WI Cupcake Thanks this. -
Hey Cupcake, did you happen to read this thread?
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...rs/233908-rounding-up-my-first-year-solo.html
so here's another option for you (probably not the best) if Millis won't take you because of lack of experience, go through the MTI academy. You should fly through it and trainer time should be very short. means to an end kind of thing.
