..I feel like I am stuck in a corner. I currently team otr and have one driver in another truck. This being leased onto a larger company. I own 1 truck the other monthly payments made easily. Own 2 trailer. Have been on this team run for almost a year, pulling in good money, as well as from the other truck.

Heres the thing; I've been looking for a team to put in this team truck to keep this run. Can't find a team and its been months. The reason I want to put a team is b/c I would buy a new truck and still team. The payments can be made on both trucks.
If I get my own authority, my ultimate goal, I am afraid I won't be having that kind of cash flow from thatotr team run. In all honesty i will be upset that that money won't/couldn't be coming in.
I'm also nervous getting this authority cuz I want my drivers happy and to keep them moving. I figure since They know Im new authority hey should bare with me while I find my own loads for them.

am i being greedy and not thinking positively at the moment?
Again, thee ultimate goal is to go out on my own. The company Im leased onto allows oo to run with their own authority, so I can "keep" that load but is it worth it to have my own authority and lease to them?

I'd like to help you, but I'm not able to fully understand the situation as you have presented it.

I think it ultimately comes down to this: will the carrier you're leased to pay more to the truck if you have your own authority? If so, will that extra amount be enough to offset the cost of having your own authority, and add a few cpm to your bottom line?

If it won't increase your net profit, there's no need to mess with it.

Thats what I need to find out. Also when I get my authority I will regret loosing that run, and the money goong with it.
i dont know whether to just leave the company and go out on my own with the 2 trucks i have, or stay with the company and run back and forth weekly like a mad man(something I dont want to do but the money is good and is whats keeping me)

I can't get numbers to work for me for a fleet with less than 5-8 trucks. Labor and work comp just eat the profits up.

The best advice I can give you is save up and pay cash for any equipment that you are buying. If you are happy with the lease situation with the current trucks, keep them where they are. Pay them off, save up and pay cash for the new equipment and get them to work with your own authority. Save like a mad-man for the next purchase. I agree with the other poster, 5-8 trucks is a minimum to get a decent rate for insurance, workers comp, and fuel. Bottom line, no debt and cash in the bank gives you options.

It seems to me. in my experience, that 2 to 4 or 5 trucks just does not work out.Never has for me over the years. I net more on just one unit, too much trouble to find good drivers.
I have seen my friends try it, same results. But when they get half a dozen or so, works OK. For a while, until they get tired of all the problems Just a thought, but if you are doing good now, making decent $$, why increase your head-aches ?

But then, take my thoughts and add 5 dimes, and you can get 2 quarters.

Its very tough going back and forth so frequently and being worried if i take too many breaks, I will loose the run. It's literally back and forth back and forth 7-8 times and after that we feel like zombies.

I have done some consulting work with new companies specifically 2 OO who worked for me and went out on their own and 6 trucks seems to be the magic number that makes sense.
