Hello,I’m new here and been doing a bunch of research. I’ve been on this forum reading thread after thread. I have a class B license , been driving city buses and straight trucks doing deliveries. I want to upgrade to a class A. And yes I have a felony. I received this felony last year. (Fresh) I’m in the Silver Spring,MD area. I am looking to get my class A on my own from a smaller school. Then getting my experience from a mega carrier. Needed help picking a mega carrier to join or that would accept me near the dc area.

Question? Are you still under sentence on probation or out on parole? If so you will not get hired to do OTR. Can't advise you without all the information.

Nothing will stop you from getting the CDL A, but most carriers won't hire a driver for OTR while being supervised like that. Nothing wrong with looking I guess, but beware this is not going to be easy.

Roadtex hires drivers that are on parole.
Other than that, will your parole officer let you leave the state? He can if he wants to.

I did not ask yet my parole isn’t going to start until October. Thank you for the company suggestion.

Yea I’m trying to weigh everything out and see if it’s possible. I’m guessing it is. Just got some hoops to jump thru due to some poor decisions I made in the past.

I'll give him one thing, and that's a big BIG plus.
He came on and was very respectful.

After getting a couple of truthful responses saying that it might be difficult while being fresh, especially dealing with going out of state driving and dealing with a P.O.. .. he came back still respectful and thankful.

It's been my experience that most in this position often get snotty when we give advice.

This fella has a shot because of his good attitude.

    KEEP IT UP !!!

@D20903 if this industry is anything, it's forgiving, and open.
    You'll eventually get your chance.
    Be patient.
It may not happen this year due to it being so fresh, but it will happen.

We've mostly all done things in our past we aren't so proud of.

Tomorrow is not who we are today.. or used to be.
    We all grow.
