I was incarcerated for six years in federal prison. Upon my release I went to renew my Maryland DL that expired when I was incarcerated so that I could enroll in the local community colleges class A cdl course. Maryland had a flag on my license for a out of state suspension from Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania told me that the suspension was for a mm cds charge I had in their state in 2010 and all cds charges come with a 6m suspension. They were not willing to remove the suspension until I filled out their acknowledgement form and waited the six months from when the form was mailed in. So the six months is now at a close and although I am working full time on the third shift I plan to enroll again at the community college for the class A course. So with all of the history out of the way here is my question. Will anyone hire someone with a suspension that recent? I know that I have to overcome the hurdles of my background but i am strapped cash wise and cannot afford to take on a 5k debt if I can't get any work. With that said I know no large carriers will hire me but just something to start I don't care if it is hauling sand or gravel. Please I know people are very judgmental of ex cons but I just need some guidance here. I'm not looking to be forgiven, just work and earn a honest living wage so that I can support my children and family. Thanks for the time. The cds charge was for simple possession nothing driving related.

Try for some pre-hires from a few companies. This way you know you'll have a job after graduation from cdl school.
Try some local dump truck companies and if no luck try these long haul trucking companies:
Carolina Cargo
TransAm
RoadTex
USA Truck
PI&I Motor Express - Masury,OH (Teamsters)
May Trucking Company
Navajo Express
Carolina Logistics
Western Express
These companies sometimes bend their own hiring criteria that's on the websites. Carolina Cargo and PI&I Motor Express actively recruit ex-cons at cdl schools. Good luck.

Might check Western Express. They are bottom of the bucket, but felony friendly. Will allow to gain the experience needed so after 1 to 2 years of clean driving record and putting your past mistakes behind you, might be able to move up to something better.
Chinatown is right though. Fill out applucations and see if you can attain pre hires. If you can then you know if your hireable or not. Good luck. -
@Chinatown I work in Harvey and have never heard or seen Comet Transportation. I looked on Google and couldn't find anything either. You can probably remove that one from your list?

I'll take that company off the list for now then. They don't have a website, so not worth dealing with.
Comet Transportation, Inc. is an Illinois Corporation filed on August 6, 2010 . The company's filing status is listed as Active.
The Registered Agent on file for this company is Azra Bogunic and is located at 924 S Euclid Ave, Villa Park, IL 60181.
The company has 1 principal on record. The principal is Azra Bogunic from Harvey IL.Last edited: Oct 15, 2016
