The whole deal sux--IMHO--u can do whatever u want--finding an in state gig even@18 is a tough trick usually only happens in family biz etc--but doesn't mean can't also no reason u cannot get ur cdl anyway--can't hurt--and like others said find a GOOD lawyer cuz this can b fixed--sounds like an extremely overzealous prosecutor trying 2 make a name--and I no what the law says--and I have 2 daughters and grandaughters--but u were both teenagers! Gonna leave it @ that & keep my nice guy record intact and not piss off the mods BUT couple of posters here need to SLAPPED!

Get ur CDL and go job hunting in state what have u got to lose? Lesson learned keep ur chin up and push forward. Also think about college and a skill. Not just trucking. The thing I see about u is that u want to stay clean and make money if u stay focused on ur goals u will achieve it.

I'm going to do something I never do. Side with a "felon". You shouldn't even have a charge, you were 17, she was 16. I'm not sure what backwards state you live in, but that's not a crime. Keep coming to this site. I have some info for you to get that wiped off your record or at least knocked down to a tiny charge. I'm going to judge you too. You're not a felon or a sex offender. If you really want to truck, you're gonna have to wait till 21. If you can pm me with the state the conviction took place in, I'll send you in the right direction.

You can drive while on probation. My brother was has a felony, all be it old, He got in trouble and has done the last few years on probation. A lot depends on the company. The biggest problem is that he has to make certain his company gets him home to make his probation reports! Talk to your PO. Try getting removed from the registry. I am not sure about how the SO charge will affect job placement. I do know you are going to be fighting an uphill battle long after you are off probation. Oh, and forget about going into Canada. They don't allow it. See if you can talk to some companies hr or safety department directly. Talking to recruiters and other company drivers you wont get the whole truth. good luck

I know in Massachusetts with him being 17 and her 16 no law would have been broken. Now if he were 18+ yes,,but 17 n 16,, no..Technically the record should be sealed no matter where he lives.

So why even have juvenile courts if we don't use them?

Were you charged as an adult or a minor? In California your criminal record is sealed when you turn 18 so any and all criminal charges you occurred as a minor basically disappear.

Not sure how your state operates but it's worth checking out. You can also look into getting your charge expunged but thats something a lawyer would need to advise you on.

Felonies definitely make things harder but it's not impossible.

Insurance companies have a lot to do with the age you can be hired at.
Do yourself a big favor and talk to a good lawyer in your state. Consultations shouldn't cost that much.

You were a juvenile at the time and charged as an adult BUT served time in a juvenile facuilty, I see a lawyer being able to make a good case of haveing that sealed/removed from your record!
If that happens then you stand a good chance of getting a CDL/job BUT not till your atleast 21. It's mostly an insurance thing.
