One for the smart #####. I have 3 felonies, 12 year's ago I was 17 and convicted of two burglary's (No theft or property damage) and deceptive pratice. I have been employed the entire time since conviction's, even a long stint as a repairman going in residents and businesses on service call's. I was recently hired by Pam to go through there cdl training, and of all the companies Ive applied to only one (swift) denied me. Now this may be because Ive made solid postive choices since conviction's? I got my GED, I got an associates degree in applied science and completed a trade school, was steadily employed with rock solid work references and a perfect driving record, and time lapsed since conviction's. For those of you out there struggling keep moving forward, adapt and overcome and I promise thing's will get better. For those of you who think felon's are dirt below your feet and shouldnt be given a chance and locked up, well your idiot's and with the number of felon's today you wouldnt want your opinion's about us to become reality, because if we felon's band together and turn on society like it's turned on us, then my friend's you would be in for some very dark day's ahead. Felon's outnumber police and the military, so think about what your saying. Just something to think about next time you want to rag on those with criminal record's.
felony friendly companies???

GMC I wasnt saying that's what should happen, was saying that's a possible consequence of society's attitude toward's felon's. It could sure happen, there has been talk of it for year's now, I mean really, how long do ya ll think were gonna allow society to #### on us????? You do the crime, do the time, and that should be it, there should be no civil death, there should be no loss of any right's afforded by the constitution, Im the wrong one to be debating with, Im not in the wrong. Society is in the wrong 100%. I accepted responsibilty for my action's and had no problom paying my debt to society, this after affect #### is what I have a problom with. No, I dont think or want felon's to ban together and turn on society, I was just saying if society and the system maintain there current attitude, dont be surprised if it happen's.

Well i have two felony one from 2002 an the other from 2004 a caught my first felony a few weeks after i yurned 18, at that point i had never had a job or new anthing a far as work ethic. I just recently got hired with Western Express out of tennesse. Like i said i have 0 worl experience an they gave me a chancs. (note i recieved my cdl in april an i took about six months to find work i have applied for every big company in the country i get turned downed literally 3 to 4 times a day stay positive people who dont have a backround will never understand until it happens to them or a child oh theres or just somebody close enough they feel needs a chance. Its not fair to my family an kids to give up because of a mistake i made as a child. I know once i was able to humbble my self an stop feeling like i was being singled out things did change. From what i have learned with this trucking thing is Almost any idiot can get a job with almost any company as long as they are not a felon on the flip side those guys go from job to job because anybody will hire them. somtimes i feel i i wasnt a felon i could do any job it suck yes stay strong i hope this helps

@winchester and misterg... I am a felon. Its Prejudice, racist liek yourselves who make criminals wanna continue to rob, steal and kill! No human being is perfect. BUt its not up to me to judge you. When its all said and done, and you have to meet the maker who create us all, then you will pay the price for being the close-minded, grumpy old, sad excuse for a man you are.

lonelyswmtrucker Thanks this. -
You do the crime, you DESERVE to do the time.
Why should the rest of America have to tolerate your excuses? With the attitude you are displaying, you haven't learned anything. -
Cut and dry issue. It pretty much all depends on what the charge is and when it was. Certain charge/date combinations will make getting a job with a major carrier very difficult, no bones about it.
Also, some people will judge unfairly (although I'm not sure misterG was guilty of that), but based on the last two posters rants I'm not sure they have the right attitude. In fact, KingTrucker seems to be putting down everyone in their mid-30's that decides they may want to pursue a trucking career??
None of us are entitled to anything, ex-con or not. And how did accusations of racism get involved?? WTF?? Also, just a heads-up - its MITT Romney. -
Reading some of the posts in this thread made me feel a range of emotions and thoughts that prompted the following essay.
When I was eighteen, I was convicted of felony Theft, Forgery, and Identity Theft. All related to stolen credit cards and checks. I won't write about my regrets or wishes or excuses. It happened, I can't change the past. I can't make it go away, as much as I'd like to. It was a series of horrible choices, mistakes and idiocy. I threw away academic scholarships, money, friends, fiancee. I served three years of an eight year sentence and finished the rest on parole. It changed my life forever. I've been struggling to find employment ever since.
At first, I experienced regret and a wish to change things for the better. Originally, I was studying for a career in writing, or publishing. I ditched that and decided to enter into the medical field. I thought something like, "Save lives! Help others! That will appease my guilty conscience and give back to society." This was not to be. I slowly realized my situation. I simply wasn't wanted. I was a liability, a risk, an undesirable. I even tried volunteering at a hospital. Of course, I ended up working fast food management for years.
Now I want to start a family. I have a wife, she wants kids. I have to do something more. She's a medical assistant and makes decent money, but we'd like more. I don't have very many options I like, so I'm turning to this. Why does trucking appeal to me? Many reasons. The lifestyle suits me, I love driving around the country. The money is decent, even in the first year. There's room to grow, no immediate glass ceiling. The serious possibility of getting into it, even as a felon. I believe I may even enjoy it. Who knows? I'll find out, if a company will take me.
Some of you already wish to turn me down based on what seems to be pure prejudice. Quite hostile about it, as well. At what point has a person served their sentence? At what point has justice been served? When is the punishment ended? (redundancy is redundant) I was sentenced to eight years in prison. That was the punishment given to me by the judicial system. After that, how long until I can re-enter society? It appears that a couple of you would doom me for eternity. We all change, every day of our lives. We are not the same people we were at ten, or twenty, etc. That much is as obvious as the sky.
Thank you, to the majority of posters in this thread.

I don't see a need to judge anyone. Many things today are crimes that were not only a few years ago. Other things that were misdemeanor's are now felonies. If someone has served their time and are willing to turn their life around then they should have that opportunity.
platinum, bullhaulerswife, gb2nyc and 1 other person Thank this.
