I have a question for FFE company drivers. Are power inverters allowed? If I plan on spending 3 - 4 months on the road without home time then I would hope a power inverter would be allowed so I could have a microwave.

I plan on spending at least my first three years with minimal home time. If a company would like a driver that doesn't need to be routed "home" and only wants to put in miles, then I would assume they would want that driver to have what he/she NEEDS to make his/her life comfortable within reason.

Current drivers... Please tell us what you use to keep your food cold/frozen, what you use to cook, how/where do you clean your food prep equipment?

Who do you use or are you considering using for internet access nationwide? How is the service working or what have you heard... How much is the cost?

What about tv? Do you subscribe to a service or is there a service you are considering? How is the service you are using or why are you considering using this service... How much is the cost?

I appreciate all your input whether you are an experienced driver or an educated student driver... or fresh on the road.

the only inverters that are allowed are 750 and under and can plug into the cig outlet.

However there are a few people that use the invisible 1500-3000 watt inverters that seem to disappear when you go to the terminal for service.

Or you can use the thermo electric coolers... they can get pretty cold, however I'm not having much luck keeping it cold enough for lunch meat, milk, etc...

I have a thermometer in mine and the best I can get is 40 degrees. and that is with the A/c cranked way down. The temp fluctuation makes me nervous.

    shoelessjoe Thanks this.

Hey guys awesome stuff here. I'm wanting to know the same things as shoelessjoe about internet or tv services you guys might use or who you go through for these services.

I'm hoping once I go solo myself with FFE I'll be able to bring the ol' laptop along with me. Sounds like you guys stay running pretty good so not sure about how much downtime you might get to rest? How often are you having to do a 34 hr restart anyway.....sounds like its inevitable that you'll have to do one.

Thanks guys be safe out there!!:biggrin_25514:

I have one that does pretty good. I have found that it helps to keep it fairly full. If you don't have a lot in it at a particular time just put a gallon or two of water in there. Also, make sure that both fans are working. If you have a coleman cooler they do not sell replacements for the inside fan. However the CPU fan from a computer fits perfectly. If you do not have an old computer sitting around Radio Shack has the fans fairly cheap.

Do FFE trucks have APU's or another comfort type set up for heating and cooling while shut down for your 10? Or do you idle for heat and cooling? My trucks i drove at Werner had APU's so I'm not familiar with idling. Does that keep you comfortable?
