    WhiteDog...

I would assume that companies would understand emergencies such as a close relative of mine being taken to the hospital in serious health or something like that. Other then that... I don't foresee any reason whatsoever I would have to be home. My goal is to stay behind the wheel... make money... put a down-payment on a rental property every year and a half or so... and just keep on doing that over and over until I'm ready to retire. If I'm not behind the wheel then I'm not working toward my goal.

This is how I look at it......You want home time? Don't complain about how small your check is,you want miles and pay? Don't complain about not being home enough.....its the way it is in this industry.....I want the miles.....I have no wife and kids so I couldn't care less if I don't see my house for a year....:biggrin_2558:

Edmond... I feel the same way. I don't want time off. Like I said earlier... I want to run for 3-4 months and then take a 3 - 4 days off... run 3-4 months than take 3 - 4 days off... and so on.

NEVER assume my friend. Not in this heartless, greedy industry.

2 examples (I'll even give company names):

Max Morgan Motorfreight out of Cedar Rapids, IA.
My last grandparent (maternal grandmother) was put in hospice, on her death bed, asking to see me (her oldest grandson).
I was in Georgia when I found out.
Called my dispatcher, and told her I needed to get home a.s.a.p. and told her my situation.
She argued with me, and called me a "God #### liar", and told me to take a load to Massachusetts. I was flabergasted!
By the time I got the company to belive me and get me home......my grandma was in the ground.

Knight Transportation out of Pheonix, AZ. (Eagan, MN. terminal).
Had a REAL bad habit of sending me to the rockies/west coast, AND LEAVING ME THERE.
I was always stuck in a Denver.....Los Angeles.....Salt Lake City loop.
And every time I got to Denver, they would let me sit atleast an entire day (little freak'n game they liked to play to make me think nobody ever moved freight east of Denver).
Then, as I was sitting in my truck in the Denver terminal....a call came in from my wife saying my daughter had been involved in a car accident (hit by a Lakeville Motor Express truck switching lanes, and smashed her car against the center wall).
Immediately told my company I needed to get home.
Their responce? "Got nothing going that way....wanna go to L.A.?"
I begged and pleaded with them.
Their responce? "Got nothing going that way....wanna go to L.A.?"
I DOUBLE begged and pleaded....I tried my darndest to get them to feel my pain.
Their responce? "Got nothing going that way....wanna go to L.A.?"
I told them that I see trucks going east out of Denver all day and all night.....so someone is getting something going that way.
Their responce? "Got nothing going that way....wanna go to L.A.?"
THREE DAYS they let me sit in Denver three ####### days....just because (to them) I was either making another L.A., SLC, Denver turn, or I wasn't going anywhere at all.

    Yep.....last grandma die'n.....daughter hospitalized from a car accident.....these mother ####### don't give a God ####.....so don't EVER kid yourself on that one.

I talked to a Stevens Transportation recruiter a couple of weeks ago. He said his company will work with you during family emergencies, including rerouting you, finding another driver for your load, and even buying the airplane ticket for you. However, he did not say if the company would then make you reimburse them for it. It would seem reasonable that they would, but who knows?

Me, too. All I need is to be home every so often in winter to make sure the heater is still working. But if I'm not and the pipes burst the day after I leave on a 3-week trip, well, I'll be replacing some carpet!

Or I have a new, um, indoor swimming pool!
