Well my friend thats a fear with any new job. Take it for whats it worth and try to make the best of it. I did but this company is not for me. When your used to running the way I did they can't do it for me. But like Biscuit said if you can figure them out it may work for you. But I just can't get a handle on this company like I did my others. Good Luck to you!!! Keep us posted on how its going. Would like to hear from a ground up person instead of me who has experince..

When you get there, tell them that you are a future runner. They will know what that means. Having worked in pleanty of depots, there are just so many complaining drivers, and many that are rightfully so, that when they hear that someone is hungry, they give them the miles. Of course every company is different, and some may not care, but from what I know about FFE, is that it is very typical of the industry. You will probubly have a dipatcher and/or a FM who will give you work. Many drivers will want to get home at whatever opportunity that they can get.
You let them know that you want to work at every moment. -
David telling them that doesn't help any. However, if you have a good FM being able to bail them out and willing to when they have a distress load will get you in their good graces.
-
I know, there are so many factors in there. Like the terminal that you run out of. You can have people that are part of a good old boy network and you are just not part of and never will be. You terminal could have lost accounts and the FM is giving out token scraps to drivers. But I find that if at the very least, you tell them that you are runner material, even if it only gets you 1 percent more business, its the way to go, if you are hungry that is.

Well I told my girl (fm) I wanted to run till the tires fell off and I average enough miles to pay the bills and have a lil money to blow on time off. But then I only have a pickup payment, insurance, and a 200 a month cellphone/internet bill. I didn't opt for any kind of insurance which helps out. However, when I request a certain load I usually get it where most drivers get told not to be requesting. The offside of that is I have got calls before at 2am asking if there is anyway I can negotiate the funnybook to bail out a hot load that's in distress.
-
What happens if you can't negotiate it. Like your too tired or something. Do they frown on that or do they accept it. I have fallen asleep before when I was 15 year old and since then I don't like/want to push myself when Im tired. My life is more important but I don't want to be turned down on other loads.
-
Gilbert, when I am too tired they understand. It's something of a "you scratch my back I scratch yours". Only 1 night/weekend dispatcher will call my cell, and they know my QC has no sound on it. When they tried to replace it I told them my truck has an evil spirit that dislikes beeps in the night.
-
Thats a nice way to drive, I have never been a morning person. My jobs when I worked as a correctional officer made it difficult for me to get my body clock on a set pattern. Even when I was in school from about 7th grade until I graduated I slept 2-4 hours a night, now that I am getting a little older (not old despite those ###### kids at church calling me sir) I need more rest. Hell these last couple of months are 1st time in my life I have hallucinated due to lack of sleep.
Drive safe no matter what, because no load is hot enough to be worth your life or even the cost of the equipment hauling it. When your body says something is wrong listen, even if others call you some name trying to draw your temper at least you'll be safe out on the road.
