You guys are going to talk me into getting a trailer sooner than I had planned! As for the power-only crowd being a mixed bag, I guess it comes with the territory. But you are more than welcome to pull me up on your carrier411 if you want! ;)

Open deck isn’t a bad line of work for an o/o. Less to invest in and returns can be great as long as the lane is right. Reefer is risky. Vegas can be a tough market for trucking.

If you are getting new trailers right from the manufacturer and have a good lane or two to get from A to B its not always bad doing power only for a short time. It just requires a lot of extra leg work and often doesnt go as planned. It can be profitable and its nice to get a a little extra and a brand new trailer to move some freight. I remember a few lanes that we would pay carriers 600-1000 to move a dry van they could load for 10 days. And the guys who found a little niche market were able to do all right in that situation. BUT once the buyer had all of the trailers they order that lane dried up and all the extra dead head for the drivers cut into the profits.

I wish i still had pics of the used trailers with flat and missing tires, broken doors, no lights, rust buckets folks have tried to get me to move. You all would have a laugh im sure.

Nah, what I mean is that you get runs that go off seamlessly, and then you get guys who disappear while hauling a half million dollar telestacking conveyor for a week because they couldn't figure out how to plate it and permit it and they were too embarrassed to tell you that they're uncomfortable running a 12' wide piece despite talking a good game about it two weeks in advance of pickup.

I can believe you. I once did a trailer for Convey. Out of the 8 tires, 5 of them were below 60 psi, 2 were below 80 psi and the good one was at 90 psi. Just ridiculous. Which makes me think...if those tires were that blatantly disregarded, what condition are the brakes in?
