One of you guys here basically said: "Drive the truck, look for cheap fuel, ignore the rest, and file every three months." Well I did that, and here's the result:

Now I did spend some miles on the Mass Turnpike, but I didn't keep track of them because I didn't know they were exempt at the time. Also pretty surprised I owed money in Texas. But I can't complain when the end result was almost zero.

A lot depends on the states tax rates. Before NJ raised taxes we were buying all our fuel in NJ but running enough PA and NY to pay every quarter as our surplus fuel purchases in NJ were only worth 17.5 cents a gal. while NY and PA were both over 30 cents.

After NJ raised the taxes [and the disconnect here is I don't know what it did to the overall fuel cost] but we have been even or slightly ahead and paying on line now we get to use the extra credit the next quarter.

Hopefully you are using a fuel card with a decent discount. That’s almost half of the miles I ran last year. I may need a nap just from thinking about those kind of miles.

You must run pretty light miles. I feel like I run pretty light and I'm right about where GpD is, about 20k per quarter or 80k a year. I actually run about 2k per week but I like to take 6-8 weeks off per year.

I average about 260 miles a day. Takes about 10-12 days to turn the deal that I do.

That's a perfect IFTA filing. It just doesn't get much closer to zero. I've yet to get below $200 for a quarter.

Me too Steve, I'm reliably at about $225-250 the lanes that I run.
