When filing 2290 (e-filing) do you register trailer also? Need answers.

2290 is for Power unit only. I use Express truck tax for my 2290.

Used to be you could stop in at your local "friendly" IRS office and pay it. Now you have to make an appointment. You have to make an appointment to pay a bill.......how ridiculous is that?

Yes. It reads clearly if your vehicle including trailer is certain amount of pounds you should pay this category. Bill should run on the hundreds mine says 412.50 because it is after July closer to November. I understand the average runs for around 500$.

When you File your 2290, they will ask you for the Taxable Gross Weight.

Taxable Gross Weight = Truck + Trailer + Maximum payload

So to answer your question when you select your taxable gross weight you are "including" the trailer.

Example: If you're an over the road driver and you can scale up to 80,000lbs then your taxable gross weight should be Category V - 75,000lbs or more.

Hope this provides a little more guidance on your question!
